Need help Identifying Carb? Carb suggestions?

Im trying to identify this holley carb, it was sold to me by a friend but i think he gave me the wrong specs on it, anyway ive been looking for some sort of identification number on the carb, all i found was 1850-4 1737, and a bunch of tiny numbers that i cant make out.

I want to know exactly what i bought in order to try and determine if its the right carb for me or if i can do better.

I bought this carburetor on the spot when i decided to swap out my TBI, first time carb so i wasnt sure exactly what to look for and trusted my friend. My car runs fine and all but im just trying to do an overview of my setup and see if i can change something for the best.

I took some pictures, any info you guys can give me etc appreciated, i do know the carb was painted aluminum and was originally a brownish color. Im also looking for suggestions on a better carb more suited for my setup.

My complete setup

Rebuilt 355

vortec heads

hooker 2460s

edelbrock performer

Comp Cam

Hooker 2460 shorties

Any help/info appreciated

Thanks for reading

The biggest problem is the linkage. I don't think it would be as easy to make 700R4-friendly as a different carb.

Re: Need help Identifying Carb? Carb suggestions?

What would you suggest? What should i do about the linkage?

Ive also been smelling gas from the front of my car, and its not just a hint of gas its like im sticking my nose in a bucket full of it, that cant be good right?

I checked all my fuel lines and they were all replaced with rubber lines not sure if that matters, or if its a fuel pressure issue. I could be just paranoid but the smell is really strong.

I'd suggest changing the carb.

What should i look for in new carb? Is there any specific cfm/model that i should look into? I would like to replace it with a good quality carb regardless of the cost.

Re: Need help Identifying Carb? Carb suggestions?

Hes right 100%. Thats a 600 Holley. Thats ok for a mild 350. A 650 would be better but you can get it to run alright. Now, run the car and go around front and check for fuel leaks. Sometimes they leak at the float adjusting screws, usually the washer/seals. Check front and back for any wetness. Also, on a 600, the balance tube that goes from the front to the back bowl can leak. If it has been apart before, the o-rings on each end sometimes get ripped or out of whack reassembling the carb. Check the float bowl gaskets front and rear for leaks, run your finger under the bowls to check that. Now, even a slight leak will smell on a warm intake manifold but evaporate quickly.
Do it with the motor idling but be careful. If your not comfortable with that, run the car for a few minutes, shut it off, then do the checks.

Good luck.
