sorry no picture. it was on a trans am. It looked like it may have been a stock setup. It had those carbs that look like carbs but have two injectors on the top. It had 2 of those staggered, front one on passenger side and rear on the drivers side.

I was just wanting to identify it. And know if it is desirable. If it is i'll go pull it and throw it on ebay. Kinda a shame for it to just sit in a junk yard.

sounds like a cfi car. if it was an older t/a it was prolly a crossfire equipped car. if you want to pull it its up to you

sorry for beating you to it lol. basically its two carb that are controlled together they both move at the same time. except on carb controls one side of the engine 2,4,6,8 and the other controls 1,3,5,7. i believe it was an option but im not sure on that

as for rarity, i couldnt tell you. if you want to run it. then go ahead. some people hate it some love it. if both carbs are working properly its a good system, as good as any other can be. i really think it was an optioned feature as to most of the cars were carb'd

its a good system BUT its very bad if its not tuned right so it needs to be perfectly in tune thats why people hate them is because they are hard to keep in order

exactly. my teacher calls it misfire injection. you could pull it and hold on to it, put it on ebay and see if some collector is looking for one to make his car all original. or some people go off oof the cool factor, they see a dual setup and think what could i do with this. personally i wouldnt run it just for reliability sake, but id pull it just to save

also it performs worse than a slandered carb and if they need a rebuild its 2x the parts so 2x the money

Re: was at the junk yard and saw a dual carb setup, need help identifying

Both throttle bodies are open to a common plenum, there is no seperation as in one TB feeding one side and one TB feeding the other, they are just feeding a common plenum.

I recently (last summer) installed a Crossfire (Ceasefire is the more common slang, but is not due to design, it was due to a problem in location of electronics), on my Grandfather's 1971 Chev pick up (Pro street look cruiser). It runs decent, still need to do some tuning to get it better. We first installed it on a Vortec engine, that developed or rather got worse with the crack in the block by the starter pad, allowing the starter to move. We just have an older 305 in it now.

How much would the wreckers/you want for the pair of TBs from that car? I'd like to rebuid the TBs, but don't want to take the truck apart again to do so.

This is not true, it may be a common plenum but the TBs are positioned about mid of the runner entries, the runners lay flat so each TB dominantly serves the bank on the opposite side of the engine.

The CFI system is very easy to work on, the only thing that takes a little getting used to is how the synchroniser screw works off 1 throttle stop and choosing one makes the other one obsolete. Too many people just turning that synchro screw is what messed up most of these systems

It's not like I don't have hands on experiance with this system or anything.

There is indeed a common plenum under the top plate, which means that what ever cylinder is pulling air in at that time, will pull from all the air (and fuel) that is available, regardless of what TB it actually entered the plenum through.

six_shooter. i dont think he was disagreeing with you. i think he was just adding on. TT agreed that there is a common plemum. but the tb's themselves are in the middle of the cylinders on each side. regardless. its acommon plemun. and the air fuel mixture is taken into whichever cylinder needs it. but being that there are two tb's one side of the engine could draw a little more of it from one than the other

Re: was at the junk yard and saw a dual carb setup, need help identifying

It's very easy to see what I mean, if you have a dual sensor wideband setup, pull one injector and see what side is affected most. This is also the reason why out of synch TBs affect the idle quality so much. Air and fuel distribution is a big issue with these systems in fact so much that fuel tends to puddle in the plenum when it's cold or rich running. Another clear indicator is looking at the traces of PCV contamination and EGR contamination in the intake. Both are fed about center axis of the intake yet the distribution is all but equal.

As for hands on experience, I was tinkering on those CFI things back in the 90s, remember the old CFI faq & forum? I was 1 of the 2 guys that ran that site.
