edl 1406 or 1407?

i have a 350 engine with no ecu or harness...i build the bottem end, should be.40 over and 10 to 1 compression. i have a small to mild edl cam in it, holly fuel pump and regulator. it was factory heads and springs for now..edl rpm intake.

i have a 1407 and a 1406 edlebrock carb at my house. 1407 is brand new and 1406 i just rebuilt.

i was told that the 1407 is way to big for a 350....thats maybe why i have slow acceleration

so what carb should i use???????

i would buy a holley. but i have all this at my house i dont feel like wasting money, there is other things in the car that has to be done..

The 1407 isn't "way too big", but it is probably bigger than you need. The 1406 may be a bit too small.

It probably is not why you have "slow acceleration".

Start with some details. Exactly what cam? What distributor? Where is the timing set? Are you setting the timing with the vacuum advance disconnected and the engine at an idle? Are you sure you have the correct damper and timing tab? Stock "what" heads?

A "mild" cam and an RPM intake may be the biggest mismatch, although factory valve springs and aftermarket cams rarely play well together. But, even the intake shouldn't hurt that much, especially once you get over 1500-2000 RPMs.

Okay, that helps a lot.

Heads - I was afraid of that. About the worst things ever to come out of the factory. No matter what else you do, they will keep it from realizing its potential.

Cam - Sounds like serious lift, but without knowing the duration, still hard to say. Most likely it's better than the typical "RV" cam.

Intake - From the sounds of the cam, it may be fine, may actually be better to have the RPM...

Distributor - Good. Set the initial timing at at least 12 degrees BTDC at idle with the vacuum advance disconnected. If your damper is marked for advance beyond the timing tab, sit the timing for 36 degrees total mechanical advance (RPMs up to where timing isn't advancing any more, vacuum advance disconnected) and let the initial timing be whatever it wants to be.

So, what are you willing to improve? As much as I dislike Edelbrock carbs, I dislike 882 heads even more. The cam is the heart of the engine, it's always good to know what you've got.

Need to know the actual compression ratio and cam before anyone could answer that.

Re: edl 1406 or 1407?

Hello Defaria27

I was just looking on the forums and posting some parts for sale and noticed you need a little help being stuck with those 882 heads. I just listed some parts for sale you maybe interested in taking a look at. A brand new set of Edelbrock RPM performer heads would work well with your setup. I am currently located in Boston, Ma for the time being which is where you are correct? And if you are looking for some experienced help I am willing to lend a hand. I have built a few of these performance cars and don't mind getting my hands dirty to help a fellow car guy.

I also have a nice performance camshaft, lifters, and a full exhaust. Plus a ton of other parts as I am moving to Pennsylvania in July. I am looking to get rid of some parts and help you get this car running the way it should.

Shoot me over an email and we can talk; dborrelli24@yahoo.com

Check out my post from earlier today tell me if your interested
