Re: Run-on

Just a guess, but a cc controlled carb needs the computer to run maybe?

Either put the computer back in and whatever it needs to operate properly, or replace the carb & distributor with non-computer stuff.

There are no other choices. You will NEVER get it to run properly with what you've done to it without doing one of those two things (and you can't do it half-way - either one, or the other - no other choices).

How do you know the computer was retarding your timing?

IMO, you should put everything back to factory stock and get it running correctly. If it's not running correctly on the computer, then that means there's a problem somewhere. Fix that problems(s) and you'll be happy. A good service manual has all the step by step procedures to diagnose and repair eveything.

I just don't think it wise to switch out one thing for another just because you can't fix something. You'll just end up with a different set of problems when changing over to something different, only now when you run into problems you can't refer to your trusty service manual.

before i removed all of the emissions and ac components i bought a chiltons manual and read that but when i bought the car half of the emission were disconnected anyways there was no belt for the air pump or ac compressor so i just removed them, also most of the hoses for egr, pcv, canister etc. were spliced and not connected to anything most were not even plugged in so i removed all of them. and i believe it was the computer that retarded timing because wen i was setting timing i had the computer in, i could not set it the car set back and stalled out the sec i remived the computer everything was ok. so i am still puzzled i was wondering if there was any adjustments to be made on the carb itself?

Re: Run-on

Did you disconnect the ETC connector before trying to set your timing if not then that may be your problem when you had the computer in the car... if your going to complete the switch any non cc distro will work. it sounds like your motor is stock so no need to spend 400 dollars on a disto. holly or edelbrock carb will work. vacuum secondary if you have an automatic. holleys are better at the top end but require alot of adjusting. edelbrocks seem to be good all around and require less adjustment. I perfer holleys but thats just my opinion.

Re: Run-on

MSD is good but you'll be spending alot of money for a stock motor. Proform (cheap) but work well. I just picked up a CC one for my TPI setup for 140 dollars from summit. summit sells there own brand distro for like 90 dollars which should work in your case.
