Getting ready to fire it up. Have a question.
I just finished a laundry list of work on my 83 Z28. The last task was to rebuild a non ccc carburetor (the PO installed a non ccc HEI dizzy). So I rebuilt an edelbrock 1903 q-jet carb...pretty much a quadrajet with edelbrocks name on it. Anyways, I've read some confusing information about where to set the mixture screws...some say 1 1/2 turns out, others say around 3, and I've evenb seen 4 turns. Which is it? I haven't had the chance to re-read my carb book and all the other info I've acquired yet. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I started mine 2 turns out From there you will either have to use a vacuum gauge or listen to the RPMs fluctuate. Edelborck has a few videos on their website that shows how to go about setting the mixture screws while the car is running. I would spend some time watching the videos.

Non-CC 1-1/2 to 2. CC 3 to 4.
The CC carb idle mixture screws have a finer thread on them.

No thanks. I think I have the cc dizzy somewhere in a box of parts the PO gave me.
I got it fired up today but something isn't right with the carburetor...probably the same reason my friend stopped using it. Fuel was leaking out from the accelerator pump piston hole, there was a fine mist of fuel blowing up when I rev the engine, and the engine would stay running when I fully closed the idle mixture screws. I think I need to replace the float...the one thing I didn't get when I rebuilt the carb. So it's going to sit on the shelf for a couple days. I have another q-jet I pulled off a suburban that I'm going to try using and see how that goes. If that doesn't work I'll put a new float in the other one. If all else fails I have an edelbrock performer that I know works well.
