Re: High Idle...Help identifying a SENSOR...

i think that used to go to the stock air cleaner.the purpose was to warm the carb faster on cold start.but i thought it was like a shroud around the exhaust maifold that the heat came from. is your valve cover gaskets leaking onto the ex. manifold?

You may need to replace the CTS connector along with the CTS (in fact, the connector may be the problem).

Can we assume your car still has the factory type carb on it?

Re: High Idle...Help identifying a SENSOR...

When you buy a new CTS, it usually comes with a pigtail with a new connector that's a MUCH better design, because that old stewpid one like in the pic, always fails, just like the one in the pic has failed; just open the box and make sure there's one there when you get it.

You're going to need to lose the bad-idea open-element air cleaner and put the stock one back on, along with the crinkly sort of flexy tube that goes to the air cleaner from that heat stove on the exhaust manifold, if you want to pass California inspection. I notice that it had a nub of that in the first pic but was gone in the 2nd one... needs to be restored intact.

The reason smoke comes out of that hole, is because the valve cover gasket RIGHT IMMEDIATELY ABOVE IT is leaking; and the oil drips down onto the manifold and burns.

I hate to rain on your parade, but looking at what I see in that pic, you've got A LONG WAY to go to "fix" that thing, besides just the one sensor... but it's a good start.

Re: High Idle...Help identifying a SENSOR...

Replace your CTS, but it's probably not the reason for the high idle. Check all of those vacuum lines that are, or are not, hooked up properly. Bet you find a leak somewhere.

With the CTS not connected the vehicle will always be in warm-up mode, the ECM things the engine is always too cold for open loop. This will cause an excessive rich mixture and all together crappy mileage and performance.

Re: High Idle...Help identifying a SENSOR...

Also in pic 4 it looks like a broken hose. Cant see for sure where it goes might be your vacuum leak. another one to check in pic 4, by the heater hose, of the water pump looks like a vacuum hose t connector that is open. How long have you had this car?
