intake question

how can some one tell what kind, make and mode, an intake is. I have a piece together engine in my recently purchase... Im having trouble on what to ask for when getting parts. There are numbers and some various letter in different places but none that I have found so far give a name.....Same goes with the heads and block... Really needs to know what year and type I have... I just found out today that my 1990 305 V8, has a 1978 3.8L buick quadrajet 4bbl on it... So you see what I'm up against... Any Help?

Re: intake question

Ok, where will I find the block casting number... I just came in from looking for any numbers. I found none. the intake is clean of numbers except for cyclinder numbers 2,4,6,8,1,3,5,7 and fireing order. It does have a port for egr buy it is blocked off by a plate which looks factory...Block casting numbers? where?

Re: intake question

Sounds like a late 70s early 80s intake. The block casting number is behind the drivers side cylinder head on the block. The block suffex is on the front of the engine on the passenger side under a flat spot on the block under the cylinder head.

Re: intake question

Wow, I looked just a minute ago and that part of the engine is covered by the AC unit... Someone told me I could find a head number on the passenger side front head.. and the block number is there as well? not my day...I did see what I think is a knock sensor. Its on the passenger side low next to the oil pan.... All gauges work great except for one and we know which one that is....LOL

Re: intake question

someone must have put the knock sensor out of the old engine there. The block casting number the one behind the drivers head you might need a mirror too see it. The head casting number on chevy heads are under the valve covers.

On factory intake manifolds, the casting numbers are on a runner behind the carb.
