thanks for the help
thanks for the help
Re: tbi to carb keeping stock distributer?
No. You need to replace the distributor with one that has a mechanical advance inside. Basically any hei distributor that was not in a computer controlled car will work. Or you can get an aftermarket one.
What motor setup do you have? a 750dp is a pretty big carb for a 355.

it has vortec heads port and polished. Edelbrock performer intake comp cams 08-503-8 cam 10.5 to 1 compression
But the distributer wouldn't work if I left all of the other stuff pluged in and just undid the injectors tps and iac? And if I get a mechanical advance one can I keep my coil or do I have to get one of the older style ones?

TPS is one of the signals the computer uses to determine the ignition advance needed. If you rigged up a TPS on the carb, and kept the other sensors plugged in (vacuum, CTS, etc.), then you could use your stock distributor. I haven't done it with a TBI car, but I did do it with a computer carb setup. Worked okay.
Somebody is making a TPS conversion for non-computer carbs, but it's been awhile since I saw it, and don't recall where to get it. But, it is a possibility.
If you decide to go with a vacuum/mechanical advance distributor, you can get one that will use your stock coil. However, since the cost of an aftermarket vacuum/mechanical advance distributor which uses a separate coil will probably be more than a coil-in-cap vacuum/mechanical advance distributor will run you, and the factory coil is one of the weak links in the ignition system, I don't see the motivation for doing it.
