86 T/A motor out of a 85iroc 305high compresion, so i was told, may be reg 305. comp cam, edelbrock performer intake, weber 600cfm carb. i swaped the car out yesterday for a holly 650 double pumper with a 1" spacer, the carb wasnt tuned i belive so it bogged and died under a load, only ran fethering the gas. did wanna mess with it, so i put the weber 600 back on with the 1" spacer...drove to the store, ran fine the whole way there. went to leave and give it gas and it had a MAJOR backfire, car died and the carb/hood was on fire...i panicked like a dummy and dumped a ton of water in it....finaly put it out..sat for a min, took me about 5 min to get it running again (prolly cuz of all the water) drove it home REALy slow at about 20mph. called a mechanic, he said it was prolly because of a vacume leak. i assume it was from the spacer, i had a make it ur self gasket, it sucked..so i took it off and ran the orginal just 600cfm weber with no spacer (ran perfectly before i swaped carbs)....now it dies if i dont keep a little gas going to it, and under a hard load it bogs, also im noticing a loss of power....i DID mess with the dizzy to try and get the timing a little better with the new carb. did my best to time by ear considering that the balancer is like berried under the other pullys and you wouldnt be able to get a timing light on it...im THINKING that this is all because my timing is now off...any ideas? or suggestions on what MIGHT be causing it? vacume lines look good to me btw...i can take pics or videos if needed...

P.S. if it runs fine, dont play with it

Put the 650 back on with no spacer and see what happens. Could be the backfire upset the 600.

i ended up going back to the original set up of the 600 with no spacer, running good now that i got the timing set and the 600 tuned by a local shop, guy only charged me 4 buck haha
