500 cfm

I recently purchased an Edelbrock 500 carb. I am wondering if I will need to get an adapter plate to use it on my stock manifold. I plan on getting an edelbrock performer RPM intake later. I just really need to get rid of the quadrajunk that is on it now. Thanks for all y'all's advice in advance

The best advice you'll get is to fix whatever's wrong with the Quadrajet since it's a vastly superior carb to the Edelbrock.

Second best would be to get a Holley DP instead of the Edelbrock. Wait until you've changed the manifold instead of running an adapter either way.

Re: 500 cfm

I already have the edelbrock. the q-jet isn't opening the secondaries, I believe it has to do with the vacuum diaphram for them. I think the other issue with it is the idle control solenoid (that is a guess at what it is called) it is on the D/S front corner and the linkage right behind it. the issue is no matter how much I adjust the actual idle screw or adjust the solenoid my idle is still all over the place. like going from 470-610 rpm. I don't know much about he q-jets, but over Christmas I rebuilt it and it ran better for a couple of weeks. Then last week it started doing this. I have had Edelbrocks in the past and have gotten good performance out of them.

When you disassemble/reassemble the Quadrajet, you have to becareful because if you over tighten the screws that hold it together it tweaks the body of the carb and will cause the lower throttle blades to bind.
