Removing EGR Valve

Is removing the EGR valve OK and delete it. I have a 4 barrel rodchster
carb, on a 83 TA 305 HO. Still have all the vacum hoses on, and all that
other junk. The carb. is new right out of the box I just can`t get the car to
idle right. Any idea`s I hope someone can help.
Thanks
Al

Re: Removing EGR Valve

You need to replace it with a blockoff plate if you physically remove the valve.

Are you looking to do this as a diagnostic procedure to see if the EGR is the problem as opposed to the new carb, or are you thinking of removing it permanently?

If permanently, I'd advise against it. The ECM on most cars will eventually figure out it's been defeated and throw the "Check Engine" penalty flag.

Re: Removing EGR Valve

If perma-removing, it doesn't necessarily throw a light. My 83 did not have a CEL on after removing every emissions related "junk". YMMV
