Help me!! Fuel lines

Hey guys i need help setting up fuel delivery, i have no clue what comes first filter or regulator! Did the whole carb swap but im stuck trying to figure this out, i have 2 fuel lines on the driver side and another on the passenger side! Which one do i use and which can i plug up?? Plese help 1982 trans am

Larger line is feed from tank, smaller line is for the return. Pass line should be for the charcoal canister.

Use the stock location filter near the tank.

Regulator should be the last thing in the line.

You say you did a carb swap, what did the car have before?

My car was equipped with "cross fire injection system" it was always making a popping noise so decided to rip it out

You using an In tank pump?

Is that a return sytle regulator?

That rubber hose so close to the header scares me.

Honestly do not know!! Gonna get under the car and see what i have, and car is not running right now so i will make sure to re route that! If i have external pump do i need return style regulator?

Most suggest a return line with an electric pump.

Is it a must have? Probably not.

Rick,

Read Johnny's post #2 again, Your hooked to the wrong line..... You need the large one on the driver's side. A return style regulator is better so the high pressure in-tank pump being cranked down to carb pressures doesn't have too much back pressure.....

I was a little unsure of myself after seeing his car was a crossfire car. I have never dealt with them.

Agree with the return regulator info as well.

Restrorob,

As you can tell this is my first build and struggling appreciate all the help. So the other lines i just plug up? I have three ports on regulator bottom, rear, and side which i believe is for vaccum

Dont plug any line coming from the fuel tank!


The regulator should have instructions to say what is what.

Usually the lower is the input, the 2 on the sides are outputs for dual feed or multiple carbs. The tiny port on top is for vacum if you are running a blower or a turbo and need to increase pressure.

I'm pretty sure Johnny is right with the fuel line locations, Look on the driver's side frame. You should see a larger line with a smaller line next to it, The large line is the pressure line the small one is the return line.

I can't tell what regulator you have there but this is how mine went.....Hooked the large pressure line to the "IN" on one end of the regulator, Hook a line on the other end "OUT" on the regulator to your carb. The bottom port is not for vacuum but the return port, It hooks to the smaller return line next to the larger pressure line on the frame.

I've done this same thing on my GMC and will be doing it on my GTA....

Ok so i followed all fuel lines back to tank and the biggest line is on the passengers side, and charcoal canister was originally on drivers side im lost

Well Rick, It appears the crossfire may be different......

You see #6 is the return line, So look at your old set-up and see which side it goes to, From what I see it may be the passenger side. Then all you need to find is the pressure line, Have a friend put their ear next to the fuel tank filler neck. Put a piece of fuel hose on each of driver side lines and blow with your mouth, One will blow easily with no bubbling sound in the tank. The other (pressure line) will be harder to blow through but will bubble the fuel in the tank......

I have crossfire injection on my car-have run carb temporarily before while I had the crossfire off for modificationthe big line on passenger side is the feed line-if the fuel pump is the original turbine type,you can pull fuel through it while inactive with little restriction-unlike positive displacement types.When I was running the temporary carburetor,i just mounted a mechanical pump and pulled fuel through the inactive electric pump-drove it a few weeks this way before reinstalling the CFI.BTW CFI uses a short foam rubber coupler hose in the tank between the fuel pump and the steel line-this hose is known to turn to goo and drop off sometimes...
