Fuel Pump Replacement

Fuel Pump Replacement
Ok, so it took me a couple of days to finish, but my new Carter mechanical fuel pump is in. The former AC fuel pump I installed back in 1994 was totally dead. Guess the pusher pump in the tank was giving me just enough fuel to keep running the last few months or so.
It's noticable that the the new pump is working since the hoses are moving more so than before. The only thing that make it difficult was the fact that the serpentine belt system i installed and all its braces got in the way and had to take them off. Other than that, all went well. Btw, I installed a Mann brand fuel filter. Looks like Rock Auto came through again.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement
Ah, gotcha. I thought maybe you were upgrading to a bigger capacity pump while you were at it.
Carter seems to be the only aftermarket company that knows how to build a good pump any more. Edlebrock threw in the towel a couple years ago and started selling Carter pumps with their name on it. Holley, too.
The Carter mechanical on my Malibu is at least 12 years old and it's been on 4 engines in two cars over that time. Never rebuilt (even though it is rebuildable). Never even TOUCHED it, frankly. Still move fuel like the day I took it out of the box. Hopefully your experience will be similar.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement
Well I just got back from driving my car with the new fuel pump. Btw, I should've said Carter part #M6626.
I could not be happier with the results. And turns out that the "Quadrabog" I was experiencing was that the carb was not getting enough fuel. The pusher pump in the tank was just not cutting it. All four barrels roared back into life.

The M6626 is the "Muscle Car" pump, rated at 120 gph. I agree that it's a good unit.
