I am new to the 3rd gen. I am looking to purchase a 1988 Iroc Z, but I have a concern with the engine. I had read that the 1988 model didn't come with a carb and I wanted to see if the person added a carb or did an engine swap to the car. If it is the original engine could you advise me as which one it is? Thanks!
Are you sure its a carb not tbi ?

Take the air cleaner off and take another close up of the intake/carb/tbi.
As an 88, I'm surprised it's not TPI. That said, I believe they stopped putting carbs in Camaro's in 86 so that should be a Throttle Body Injection (Fuel injection) intake. They look an awful lot like carbs with the aircleaner on.

The thermostat housing doesn't have the usual sensors a carb'd car would. Base engine for an 88' IROC was the 5.0 TBI. And 1987 was the final year for carbureated F-bodies.

The pic SUX, but it looks TBI to me, not carb, from what I can see.
