The secondary air flaps are missing? I wouldn't.

Well the rockester thats on now. The choke always is open so i have to warm up the car before i drive it. So its between that or the edelbrock...

Choke is always open or closed? If it was always open then the car would flood 24/7.

I don't know much about edelbrocks, my holley doesn't have those flaps but also wasn't made to have them.

Re: should i put it on?

So in hindsight it will probably work, unless per edelbrock's design they are there for an important purpose.

Im not fixing the choke issue on the carb thats already on my car. The choke is always open. Like straight up and down. It drives fine.once its warmed up good. Im replacing the carb with tje edelbrock one without the secondary flaps. But im ganna try and buy some of course i just need to.know if.it will be ok short term

Ok, yeah, short term it should be just fine.

As far as that rochester goes, I'd gamble to say that the choke isn't actually working if it is open 24/7, or maybe it was just tuned to offset the fact that it is...if that's even possible.

good luck with the swap, you'll notice a difference.

Re: should i put it on?

If you have plans for the 350 I wouldn't bother putting any more in the 305 then absolutely necessary.

The difference I meant was how the car will run, it should be noticeably better. (at least I would hope so, considering that your choke is wide open right now)

Have you tried closing the choke? like...what keeps it open? Is it a computer controlled carb?

Any car with a carburetor will need to warm up when it's first started though, just fyi.

Re: should i put it on?

If i'm not mistaken, the secondary flaps you are referring to operate the secondary metering rods, just like a quadrajets secondaries. You can run the carburetor. it just won't dump any gas when you try to open it up.

Re: should i put it on?

You may run into a few minor stumbling blocks:
  1. The Edelbrock doesn't have the same bolt pattern as the Q-Jet. It won't bolt to your car.
  2. The Edelbrock won't fit the stock fuel line.
  3. The stock air cleaner won't fit the Edelbrock.
  4. The Edelbrock isn't computer-controlled, so the whole system that controls among other things the ignition timing, won't work right. The car won't run properly and will get HORRIBLE gas mileage as a result.
  5. The Edelbrock won't have any of the correct linkage for hooking up to your transmission if it's an auto, so you'll have to go out and buy that, or you'll burn up the transmission.
  6. The Edelbrock is missing parts; meaning, it's GUARANTEED not to work right.
  7. Your choke being open, matters for about the first 5 minutes after you start the car cold; after that, that's how it should be. How do you even know that the Edelbrock's choke works?

Explain clearly how putting this thing on your car is a good idea.
