going to carb
So im in the process of doing a engine swap in my 88 bird. going from 350 tbi to 305 carb. at first I thought i was going to stick with tbi since i basically have everything to do it, but after pulling out the old engine yesterday, and seeing the harnesses condition and the overall condition of the wiring in the dash and under the hood, id rather not deal with the headache and just do it simple old school carb and hei distributor. the 305 i have has a quadrajet computer controlled carb on it. I know obviously i cant use the computer controlled carb, so what all mechanical carb will fit on the quadrajet intake? basically its an all stock 305, im not really looking for performance, just stock. also i plan on just using a block mounted fuel pump. I know i will remove the electric pump in tank and just run a rubber fuel line in its place.

Re: going to carb
You pretty much have it down.
I would not use just a long rubber line to replace the pump though, what I did was used a length (to get same length as elec pump was) of 3/8" steel hard line, and joined it to the pickup with a short length of rubber and a couple clamps.
For your carb.. Any 1970's type Q jet will fit, edelbrock carb sometimes will work on Qjet intakes..
You for sure can run an edelbrock or a holley carb on a QJet (spread bore) intake with a spreadbore to square bore adapter plate

Re: going to carb
If the 305 has its stock intake, I would place a Holley 4175 spreadbore on it. It's designed as a bolt on replacement for the q-junk. You will also need a new distributor. Advance Auto has a nice MSD for around 100.

when i first did my conversion i went to the junk yard and got a vacuum advance out of an old chevy for like 5 bucks. just have to get a good new cap and rotor and replace it.
