Throttle cable question
Throttle cable question
I have a 84 TA with a ZZ4 in it. It had a Lokar throttle cable in it but it broke. So I took a throttle cable from another 84 TA parts car. The stock cable is approximately 24"long. I had to modify the end to get it to work with the Holley carb. Well that one broke too. So my question is will a TBI cable work. It measures 29" long.
When I looked up an aftermarket replacement cable the two companies came up with either a 29.92 or 30.75" length. So what is the actual length of a stock throttle cable from a carburetor equipped car? Maybe that 24" long cable I have came off of a cross fire injection car?

Re: Throttle cable question
I can't say exactly what length you'll need (or why you're experiencing breakage) however my carbed V8 uses what I think came off of a TB V6. The cable leaves the firewall and has a considerable loop in it but performs as I expect it would.
Whether that helps or not I can't say. I'm just relating my experience.

Re: Throttle cable question
The problem probably isn't the cable, as much as it is a mismatch between your carb and the throttle cable bracket. The bracket is probably too close or far from the carb, so that the cable works out to being too short. Assuming you're using the Qjet bracket anyway.
CFI has an extra long cable.
I'm sure I've got a 86 LG4 cable out in the garage, but it's stupid cold out. It's supposed to warm up a little next week.
Try a bracket for a Holley carb.
