Will the carb running lean cause bad gas mileage?

The carb was running lean and I raised the float and everythings running a lot smoother. Haven't had a chance to check my MPG's but I was getting about 14mpg before this. Is a lean condition a main cause of bad mileage? Or will my MPG be worse since I raised the float?

Thanks,
Matt

Its hard to say. A lean condition usually will make mpg better but sacrifices power and driveability also burns plugs and valves. But a lean condition could make economy worse due to more throttle useage to get up and go.

Thanks! I hang out here because I'm a big Camaro fan too. And also I have a LG4 in my Vette since it's a California 80 and the people around here have a lot more experience with the LG4 than the Vette guys.

That worries me though that the mileage should get better running lean. I raised the float in my carb and my hesitation went away along with the smoke pouring out of the tailpipes. Another problem I found was I had put the needle on backwards on the float too. I haven't had a change to check MPG's yet but will on the next fillup.

Thanks,
Matt

If the needle was in backwards you were running too rich--explains the smoke, poor mileage, and hesitation.
