305 having lean issues...
Same car as before. Running lean... lean to the point it throws the code for it. Also slight idle surge. Changed the O2 sensor so i doubt that's causing the code, not too sure what's happening here. Changed the fuel filter on the carb, still having issues. Mostly when we're taking off/when it shifts, if we put a lot of gas it'll bog down. When it's cold, it runs really well. But as soon as the choke comes off, it starts doing this. From my knowledge the air fuel mix has never been changed, got the rochester carb. Just really confused at what it could be and hoping someone can help me. When it's in park, it doesn't do it.

Carb may need a rebuild. I wouldn't just throw a rebuild at it yet though.
You probably have a vacuum leak. Bad gasket, broken line, something disconnected etc.

Re: 305 having lean issues...
Well I had the exact same issue on my 84 Trans am LG4/E4ME. Turned out to be the Air Filter (Which was brand new). It was a WIX 42101. It was very restrictive and I had the same lean at idle issue....drove me nuts. I got lucky figuring it out....
I was messing with it one day and had my snap on mt2500 hooked to the car watching the values. The Dwell would be stuck at 6 and it would show LEAN. Never moved unless I gave it gas. Then (by dumb accident) I removed the air cleaner lid and looked at the scanner. Once I did the Dwell went to (a switching) 15 - 20 and the mixture started switching between lean/rich on the scanner display and no more bad idle, check engine light with code 44 at idle.
I replaced it with the below. From what I read, WIX filters are very well made and I assume the extra wrap was restricting the air it needed. May not fix your issue but something to look at.
