Hello guys I’m new to the forum i need some help with my car and I thank you ahead of time! So I have a 1984 Pontiac trans am with the HO 305 with electronic carb when I first purchased my car she ran fine started every morning however after I would park it if it cooled down when I would come back to leave it would give problems starting I would have to pump 5 to 6 times an hold the pedal down an she would crank over finally besides that no issues so as time went by I started replace all the hoses temp sending switch an cleaning some things up new plugs cap rotor etc still ran fine eventually on a long 2hr drive I heard a pop and when I got home I noticed coolant seeping from the intake manifold so I replaced the intake gasket and while I was at it I freshened the carb up with a new accelerator pump,gaskets etc just a little cleaning I did not touch anything adjustment wise to insure I could pop it back on an be ready to ride however like a idiot I did not replace the tps while I was there go figure but when everything was put back together the car fired up actually far better then it ever had before however the idle was terribly high an would not go down and if I gave it gas it would start bogging the car was running very rich so I backed the fast idle screw out alittle which seamed to do the trick she was idling fairly well and ran great I went to take it for a drive and the car would not go past 20mph almost like it was in limp mode no matter how much I pushed the peddle down it would not go and it began to bog out almost as if I had no fuel going to it so I parked the car and began trouble shooting I check to see if I had codes nothing just the never ending code 12 so I checked the timing it was slightly off but not by much I dissconected the 5 wire plug got it timed then plugged it back in checked with starting fluid if there were vaccum leaks etc and nothing still same issue next day I go to start it an it’s worse now then ever I barely can get it kicked over when I do it runs rough an Boggs out carb pops smoke car shuts off so I checked the carb to see the spray flow an it was good I pulled plugs an cleaned them becuase they were black an crudy from running rich before I dropped the fast idle I even pulled the top of the carb off an replaced the tps still nothing! Won’t hardly start an when u give it gas it feels like no gas is coming to the carb an it completley dies out so becuase I had a gasket an new fuel pump already on hand for the car I replaced that in hopes maybe I might get lucky an still nothing! I am at my wits end I have no clue what else it could be I rechecked my ecm to see if I have any codes an nothing the same freakin 12 code never ending is the carb just toasted in general or what else could it be I realy do appreciate any and all advice thanks guys!

If I recall, there's a specific voltage the TPS needs to be adjusted to. I recall having to make this adjustment on a CFI car, and one I had with a CC qjet.

Might not be a bad idea to pull the airhorn back off, and double check that your idle tubes and IDCR are clear, and everything is reassembled correctly.

 

Lol obviously punctuation is not my strong suit! Thank you so much for the reply I will check the air horn out then! And see about the tps adjustments
