82 camaro fuel sending unit
82 camaro fuel sending unit
Need help guys. I know this has more than likely been mentioned here but couldn’t find it. My fuel sending unit in my 82 z28 is complete garbage and way beyond just being able to clean it up to make it work. And of course just my luck they don’t sell them anymore. What are my options?
Re: 82 camaro fuel sending unit
Is there a way to make the 85-92 work?
I only paid $400 for the car. I had a motor and trans from a truck I pulled awhile back. Trying to do this whole car for under $1000

Unfortunately no, on the electric unit the pickup will not go down far enough due to the electric pump being attached. The carb style goes all the way down to the bottom of the tank then the filter attaches. Not sure if you could safely attach an extension?

Ok then, will it work for my 84 TransAm (carbed)?

The one for the $315 will, the cheap one no. Its not long enough to pick up gas off the bottom of the tank. I also recommend testing the ohms of the sending unit before putting into the tank. That way you know for sure the gauge is working properly.

Re: 82 camaro fuel sending unit
You just gotta' make sure the extended line reaches the bottom of the tank; ( AKA the same overall length as the electric fuel pump/sock that was removed. ) Re-using the carb fuel "sock" is also a good idea.
I've remove 2 sending units that were modified in this way and both worked fine. ( I stripped those cars for parts.) One guy added a metal fuel line with a compression fitting,.. and another guy just used fuel hose and a clamp; neither re-used the sock - but I recommend it !!
