are you sure its comming from the gasket? It sounds like alot of fuel to be doing so. I would check the filter housing to make sure it not cracked and the threads on the fuel line to see if something got cross threaded durring the last filter change. Other than that the float could be stuck but the fuel will tend to pour out of the top of the carb.

Good Luck!

the fuel line is on the other side.. i noticed it leaking on the drivers side near the back of the carb right under the linkage. im HOPEING its the gasket...but like you basilcy siad... i dont know how the hell a little spray would leak like it was...i though the filter was on the front passanger side of the carb, along with the fuel line. so what should i do now?? or look for?i havent looked while it was running to see if gas is coming out yet, but id think id see smoke coming out of the cowl induction if that were the case..maybe im wrong and it would evaporate before it got there though...but my gas doenst seem to be going down, actualy im getting really good mpg at the moment......HELP!!

you can get a jiffy kit rebuild kit for like $20 , sounds like one or more of the gaskets were going and you helped them by cleaning it. not a big deal, q-jets are pretty simple to rebuild, a book helps because the instructions that come with the kit are junk. any camaro/ta manual should have what your looking for, try a second gen book also, there are a lot of different q-jets, just make sure you get a book with your carb. after the rebuild , i'm sure most here would be happy to help with some performance hop ups and common problem solvers. if there's a pic your part near you the tuning possibilities are almost endless and cheap.

I assume you were spraying the cleaner inside the carb, without the engine running. I believe you said it was leaking cleaner, not gas.

If the above are true, then what probably happened is some of the cleaner leaked past the secondary throttle shaft. That isn't anything to get excited about.

In order for the throttle shaft to turn in the throttle plate, there has to be some clearance between the shaft and the holes through which it goes. Normally, this allows a little vacuum leakage past the shafts, but not enough to be of concern. Also normally, if subjected to sufficient liquid, it will also wick through that clearance (especially carb cleaner).

Excessive wear between the throttle shaft and plate would be a problem, though. But, typically that doesn't occur on the secondaries of a q-jet. To check, open the trottle so the secondaries are open about half way, then hold it there and grab the secondary shaft from the outside. Wiggle it in all directions. If you can see movement, you've go wear. If not, don't worry about it.
