What the hell is wrong with my stock carb?

Recently I put on a new starter on my 86 T/A, and ever since then starting the damn thing is becoming a pain. When I go to start it i have to press on the gas a lil and when it starts I must rev it to 2000rpm untill it warms up.I had the car parked for about a month now and I start it up once a week.Last week when I tried to start it,I started like mentioned above, but i couldnt let it warm up becuase I was very low on gas by then so I turned it off.Now I try to start it and it cranks and nearly catches, but now my batt is just about dead it wont start and I know I flooded it caus i smelt the gas. What could be wrong?

With it sitting for a month and being low on gas, I suspect you have a plugged fuel filter. Most of the particles in the tank settled to the bottom of the tank and got sucked thru the fuel pump and into the carb. I would change the filter, it is only a few bucks, and fill the gas tank and add some Heat or some other type of gas dryer. You may want to pick up 2 filters. If it is really bad, you may have to change it a second time to get all the crud out. Good luck.
