Where can I get a L69 air cleaner??? Will it fit my car?

I'm looking to get a L69 air cleaner for my car...does GM still make one? I thought they made it for the 350HO kit for 3rd Gens. Where can I get it? I've looking in every junkyard around here and I can't find one!!!
Also, It will be going on my 85 Camaro (sc) with a 406, Performer RPM and a Carter 750. Will this fit??

Thanks

DAve

They also were used on mid-80's Vettes and early-80's Montes. Don't forget to look at them.

GM apparently no longer sells them. They may be keeping some back for the conversion kit (unverified). Most of the ducting is still available (driver's side scoop is not).

Keep your eyes open. One will show up. It will fit.

Are you refering to the dual snorkel air cleaner. You won't find one on those Vettes or Montes. The Vettes had Crossfire injection in 82 and 84 (no 83 Vettes), then in 85 went to TPI. The Montes never had the dual snorkel cleaner, even with the L69 305HO. I know because I have one. The one you are thinking of came on 84-86 Camaros with the L69, but not all L69s had it. I haven't yet found the RPO code for it. I don't know if it will fit under the stock hood, due to the height of the Performer RPM. The only other factory dual snorkels, I have found is on 87 Olds 442's(2nd scoop just sucks air under the hood), and some early 70's cars, but both of the snorkels just sucked air from under the hood. I have seen other cars, including Monte Carlos with it, but they were not from the factory.

Check out Air Inlet Systems at:
http://www.ramairbox.com/
They have dual snorkel air cleaners and different ducts and scoops. They list the scoops you need, but they don't have them and haven't for a few years. I gave the guy a hard time about why they advertise parts they don't have and can't get. They sell kits as well as individual parts to make your own system.

GM also does not have any set aside for the engine conversion kits.I checked into it at 3 different dealers. I gave the parts guy a little crap about it too. It isn't his fault GM still advertises the same parts they discontinued back in 97. Come on people, if you don't have any, why do you advertise them?!? What I am doing for my Monte Carlo SS is to make my own. Find another air cleaner with the big snorkel, cut it off, cut a hole and rivet or weld it to your cleaner. It's a bit more complicated than that, but you get the idea. Have you considered a cowl induction hood and a tall open element filter? Just a thought. Have a good one.

Must be getting old. Could have sworn fellow racer with '84 Monte had the dual. Perhaps it's just a bigger snorkel. If so, it would still be a big improvement over the LG4 or an open element.

From what I have found, the non-L69 Monte's had a smaller snorkel, than the L69's, but they were both singles. I have seen a couple with dual snorkels, one guy used the Camaro cleaner with the Monte lid, and has had it for quite a while, the other guy went the same route as I am by building his own. It looked just like a factory piece. Even the L69 cleaner with an LG4 would be an improvement.

I read it a couple places and the first guy verified it for me that the Monte lid fits the Camaro air cleaner thus adding 1'' of filter height. Supposedly the Camaro filter is 2" tall, The Monte is 3" tall. I don't know about clearance with the hood, but you might be able to fit a Monte lid on a F-body for a bigger filter. Just a thought, if anyone has tried it, let me know. Most of my F-body buddies have fuel injection(TBI or TPI), so I dont have a car to try it on. One thing is that the Camaro cleaner does not fit over the TPS connector on the CC carbs in Montes. The guy using the Camaro piece made a spacer to fit between he carb and cleaner. That is one thing I don't have to worry about, since I am starting with a Monte cleaner.

I want to know where all these dual snorkel cleaners are. From reading car magazines, they can find them everywhere for $15-25. I want to know what junk yards they shop at. Are there that many in California? Later.

Sparkee,

When Chevy High Performance did their 3rd gen buildup they took a dual snorkel cleaner from a 1980 Corvette. It is in the August 2001 edition. They used a 3 inch filter but had a dropped base so it still fit under the hood with their Performer intake.

The Performer RPM is a little taller but still might work.

I'm afraid I'm having a hard time believing some of this. The statement above makes me quite suspicious, because the carb connector WILL NOT be different just because they went on engines that went into different model cars!

I have this picture in my mind of this guy's original, unmolested, show-quality '84 Monte SS with "HO" on the air cleaner - with a snorkel going to each side, with full factory ducting.

I will agree with you on one thing - I'd sure like to know where these $15 dual-snorkels are coming from. It's all enough to make you want to put up a flag.

That Monte you saw, where were the scoops? If they were both on top of the radiator support, then he used the Camaro scoops. The Monte scoop mounts below the support, just to the right of the radiator. The picture below is a Monte with the Camaro air cleaner, ducts and scoops. If it looked like this then he used the Camaro setup. It does look factory, doesn't it?

As far as the connector goes, I made a mistake. It isn't the TPS it's the mixture solenoid connector. The early feedback/CC Q-jets had a TPS but not the mixture solenoid, so there was no connector on top to cause problems. I don't know what year the F-bodies or G-bodies went to the 2 connector carb, I only know my 87 has it. 87 might be the first year, because I think that was the first year the Montes went to the remote coil distributor instead of the in-cap coils.

One quick question are there any other good drop base factory air cleaners that I could use that would except a 3" or better filter. I can fabricate on a filter assy. if needed to make it a duel inlet. Is the L69 a drop base? I figured I would ask here so I wouldn't be cluttering up the boards. I would like to have something that drops about an inch. d

Thanks

An L69 dual snorkel for $15 to $25! I've been screwed--I paid $30. I feel used.
