few question before i go carb from TBI
what kind of carb do you guys recommend? i was thinking maybe a edelbrock performer 600cfm..this will be on a 305 that will soon hopefully have a lt1 (or bigger since i can with carb) and torquer 305 heads...how are the holley carbs? and the street avengers made by holley??
I decided on the Carter 625CFM elec choke($199) Accel HEI Distrib($99) and Edelbrock Torqer II intake. All for about 500 bucks, Not bad... I am leaving the elec pump in the tank and just going to an adjustable fuel pressure reg(The pumps new so I am not going to go through the trouble again of dropping the tank to take it out.)
same here i just put a pump in mine a couple months ago...not fun at all...what about a FPR...your gonna need that to...other than that is it a hard swap at all? looks fairly easy...also can i do away with the EGR or will it still run like crap? i dont see why it would since the computer no longer has control of it...im gonna leave the computer there so it can still give me the torque convertor lockup and whatever else it can do which wont be much without all the sensors...everybody keeps telling me to stay TBI and burn my own chips...that sounds harder than turning a few screws to me...

i guess i could do that...i saw the kit in summit to make the 700r4 run without the computer...maybe ill just do that...do you think 570cfm street avenger will be good? it says it good up to 300hp which would probably be the max id ever see with the 305 without juice...

I've got to agree with rocky. I wish that I had swapped as soon as the computer started giving me trouble. I feel like I wasted an insane amount of time and $$$$$$.
camaro hunter d:i thought you had to flip the switch to lock up the TC anytime you were 3rd or 4th? please clear this up man, i REALLY dont want to switch to carb and find out i have to switch on my TC every 2 minutes.

The metal gas lines that run by the driver's side valve cover. Mine's an 88, your's may be different. The metal stock fuel pressure and return lines run from the rear of the car up to right by the alternator where rubber hoses connect those to two more metal lines and turn and go back to the TB. In the picture, the white line is where the fuel lines enter the engine bay. The red lines are where the stock metal fuel lines were going to the TB after curving at the alternator. The blue line is where the rubber fuel pressure line is now going to the Mallory 3 port return style AFPR. The yellow line is where the rubber return line is, going from the AFPR back to the tank.

IMHO get yourself a Q-jet, and buy the book by Doug Roe, Rochester Carburators.
The Q-jet will flow enough cfm to feed almost any engine you can shoe horn into the car. And you can tune the **** out of it.
Excellent throttle response, and if you can keep your foot out of it , excellent milage too.

mine is an 88 also and i think i know what line your talking about now...i was wondering what that thing was...did you have to cut the fuel lines to make them fit into the carb? or are the hookups similar? ive only seen carbs that take the fuel line up front...can you get me a pic without the cleaner?

When you said "metal line going from the alternator to the throttle body" I thought you meant literally...like a line that attached to the alternator ran over to the throttle body and plugged in there...I know what you mean now, though.
I cut the metal tubes and ran a rubber fuel line from the fuel pump line to the AFPR, from the AFPR to the return line, and another from the AFPR to the carb's dual feed line.
