Cam guys.... what cam?

I'm just about to convert from TBI to carb and then a month later (after saving my pennys) I'm going to put a new cam in. The engine is a 305 and i'm going to use the stock springs for now so I can't get to high.
These are the cams i'm looking at
duration i/e : gross lift i/e : lobe separation
214/224 : .444/.467 : 112
220/231 : .468/.480 : 110
214/214 : .444/.444 : 112
213/213 : .447/.471 : 112
215/218 : .489/.503 : 115
215/224 : .489/.489 : 112
219/227 : .471/.480 : 112

they are all hyd roller cams

laters...

Good cam...probably the best one on the list for you.

220/231 : .468/.480 : 110
This would be the one I would pick..if it were me. You're prolly not willing to live with the poorer streetability that I am though.

214/214 : .444/.444 : 112
Crap. Always look for a dual pattern cam unless you have GOOD aftermarket heads.

213/213 : .447/.471 : 112
Same problem as above.

215/218 : .489/.503 : 115
Crap. The LS is way too high.

215/224 : .489/.489 : 112
Bout the same as the first one, just more lift. Would make it a better choice if you had valvesprings to match.

219/227 : .471/.480 : 112
ehh....it's ok.....

But I wouldn't really use any of those with the stock springs. You'll need to upgrade.

I'd change the springs if at all possible along with the new cam. While there I'd get rid of the exhaust valve rotator/retainers and use a standard set of retainers that way you can use the same springs exh and intake and not have to resort to more expensive sets that have different springs for the exhaust. I agree with Jester on the cams. Don't let the fear of changing springs stop you from putting in the cam you want.

I agree once again with Jester AND Damon, don't let springs limit you. They are cheap and easy to replace with the heads off, which you may need to do when you swap cams. Later you could put on some 1.6 roller rockers and get a little over .500" lift too. I am partial to high lift short duration cams myself with about a 110-112 LSA.

i would agree with every one else, get the first one. its good to see you not going to let the springs limmit your cam choice, but you heads should. stock 305 heads arnt the best flowing heads in the world. if i had stock 305 heads i would go with anything over .500 lift. to much duration would bleed of cylinder presure and leave you with a soggy bottom end. stick with something below 224 @ 0.050
