Carb and Distributor combo

Would like some input on exactly which emissions legal carbs(but not computer controlled) and distributors are being run sucessfully. I kinda like the 600 CFM square bore holley, mostly due to the price and tuning ease but I don't remember what parts were needed for the throttle and trans linkage. Is 600 CFM enough to fuel 300 hp? I won't be going overboard, just want to ditch the computer until I get my second gen camaro and then drop the engine in that car.

Meant to say dropping in a new 350, which may do some time in this 84 Z before getting yanked. So, a combo very streetable, able to produce around 300 horses, and easy to rig up.

I don't think it's emissions legal to replace a computer controlled carb with a non-computer one.

Of course it would only be used on the track, just like everyone else. So, the question still stands. Thanks

billy, you're the one who used the words "emissions legal". Apeiron is correct, and you're contradicting yourself. If "Of course it would only be used on the track..." is tongue-in-cheek, then why are you concerned about an emissions legal carb? If you're looking for gas mileage, go with a q-jet.

A 650 CFM Holley should do a 300 HP 350 nicely. The only rigging would be a bracket for the throttle and TV cables and the appropriate bungs to attach the cables to the throttle arm itself - all available from the same source as the carb. The distributor is most any electronic mechanical/vacuum advance from HEI to Accel to Mallory to MSD.

Oh come now, let's not mix semantics here, emissions legal meaning the level of pollutants emitted into the air, or better out the exhaust. We all know we could have a 600 cfm holley that wasn't so called emisssions legal but tune it down so it would pass the sniffer. But, I see your point that if you are going to go with a non cc carb, then what difference does it make whether or not it is classified as 50 state legal because it's still not technically legal. Thanks.

I have a 400, big heads, BIG roller cam, etc. etc.; I have a Holley 6211 on it, it passes TN emissions easily. Rules there are no visual, sniffer at idle only, must meet OE specs for year of chassis mfr.

Haven't dealt with it since I moved to CA yet; something tells me I'm in for a rough experience though.

What are your rules? That makes a BBBBIIIIIGGGGG difference in what is and what isn't emissions legal.

TX is not a commie state yet, not like New Jersey where i'm from. No sniffer here yet, not quite sure what they look for under the hood other than what I was just told by a guy that ran a service station and that is egr, smog pump I think and he said heat riser?? If someone knows exactly what they check for under the hood in TX this year, that would be great. We all know what is coming to every state soon anyway. Calif and NJ are pilot states for these programs and will eventually get to every state.

Hmm, don't know, have got a 700r4 and "TC" to me means torque converter.

600 CFM is enough for 300 HP but you'll get there a LOT easier with a 750 vac sec. ANY 350 can take a 750 with ease.

I beleive all you need is a Holley with the correct GM/auto trans linkage on the throttle arm. They sell an adapter that lets you hook up the slightly different 700R4 TV cable (it's more than a simple "kick down" cable).

They guys at Summit tech support could help you out with this.
