Q-jet rebuild and a few questions

a buddy of mine is gonna give me a 600cfm q-jet for free so i might go ahead and switch to carb until i can get a better carb or whatever...somethings wrong with it before he replaced it it backfired like crazy and **** do you think a rebuild would help? i know some guys that will help me do it...if i get that all ill need is a distributer, intake, and FPR id like to possibly put a vortech carb supercharger on it...i dont know yet tho

The backfire problem probably wasn't in the carb. About the only thing that could do that is the accelerator pump, and if that's the case (and I doubt it), then a rebuild would help it.

I'd be very wary, though, since q-jets aren't typically designated by CFM (i.e., someone may not know what they're talking about). Also, you need to know if it is an older mechanical type carb, or a computer controlled carb. If the latter, you don't want it.
