Squarebore to Spreadbore Adaptor
Squarebore to Spreadbore Adaptor
Ok, my Holley is now installed, and i had to use a parts store Adaptor item. My squarebore Holley mounts to this which is mounted to the spreabore intake manifold. Since this is the OE intake manifold with the 2 big holes in back, and 2 small holes in front. Question is: Will fuel from the carb go from each single port on the manifold from the carb? the holes on the carb are smaller than the 2 big holes in back.
Just want to know if something weird will happen before i fire it up. Thanks.

It's not an ideal situation, that manifold will cost you some power. THen again, it would no matter what
But nothing BAD will happen.

The idea of an engine is supposed to be that it will suck in the fuel and the fuel won't be shoved/sprayed in. It may be a problem, If I could do it again I'd dremel out the center the extra metal in the enterance for the primaries. I used to find gas on my air cleaner lid constantly, no such happenings since with same set-up but performer intake manifold. You basically have to remove the intake to dremel it otherwise you risk getting metal shavings into the engine which would be far worse then the occasional spray of gas on the aircleaner lid. It's not a performance piece for sure. You may have luck getting a cheap intake manifold from a junkyard that is squarebore and not spreadbore.

I think my point was misunderstood. Will having an open SPACER affect the fuel delivery to the 4 hole intake manifold. I don't want the fuel to hit the metal, and was wondering if a 4 hole spacer was mandatory.

this isn't an answer to your question but i want to tell you i used one of those afew years back and i constantly fought vacuum leaks. the bolts that hold it to the manifold would loosen up over time. just so ya know

Your question is not misunderstood. Here is the idea, take in a depth breath. Your lunges are creating a vaccum, much like a piston moving down in the bore does. Does any of that wind hit your face? Nope. The pressure difference isn't there. Just like the engine, the air is being sucked into the "holes" and not being shot down at the manfiold (in theory!). The problem with the theory is that an engine isn't a turbine, it's a piston pump so one pump creates a nice velocity of fuel which then is all the sudden no longer being pulled that way, but now in a different direction and it will hit other objects in the process. Fuel pressure also plays a little into this also.
Short answer: No, it's not manditory. I don't think they sell ones with 4 holes for an adapater because the taper for the primaries would inhibit the throttle blades. Plus the division of vaccum would really mess up the operation of the carb because most of the airflow would have to try to be drawn through the secondaries. Like I've mentioned before, not a performance piece, barely a daily driver piece, if I were you I'd go try to pick up a cheap aftermarket manifold used or find a stock squarebore one or even buy a used spreadbore and grind it yourself. Heck, I'd cut and sell you my Q-jet piece of Iron for $20 just need to be swapped.
