I assume you're talking about your '89, which would have been converted from TBI, most likely.
There aren't any, really. The only one that comes to mind for a factory carbed car is advancing the base timing from factory specs. Since you had to put non-CC carb and ignition parts on yours (I'm assuming), then adjusting the timing should have been part of the conversion process. So, the only "free" part is really called "tuning".
There are some relatively inexpensive things, such as dual snorkel or open element air cleaner. See the tech articles for how to make a dual snorkel. You want to feed it cool air, so either factory-like ducts and scoops, or some home-made variety is in order. If you settle for an open element cleaner, that's the least expensive and easiest, but you'll be feeding the engine warm air from under the hood.
Sometimes a carb spacer helps, but that really depends upon your individual setup. About all you can say there is, try it - if it helps, keep it; if not, take it back off.
The biggest help to a carb system comes from a healthy ignition system and free-flowing exhaust. Good cam and heads follow closely behind. None of those are "free", but that's the way you have to go about it.

A cam with a duration @ .050" between 200-220 degrees will work well. Any brand of headers and a good cat-back for the exhaust. A worked over set of stockers will work well but the best would be L31 vortecs or World Products S/R 305 heads. A good Edelbrock intake would give you a nice increase too.

You will not have problems going bigger than 1.94/1.5
Common myth #1: 2.02/1.60 valves do not fit on 305s.
Yes they do! its been done and will be done again. There's words goin around that shrouding is the next problem, but that's only prominent at lifts higher than .600". How many street cams go that high?
As for the L98 Aluminum head, they are ok but they require you to run external EGR and if you need to pass emissions or cant tune computers, then this is goin to be a huge hurtle. (Actually neither do the L31 Vortecs.) The L98 heads have bad intake flow. The S/R Torquers and Vortecs outflow them. And if you run the Aluminum heads, you'll have to get some flatop pistons because of the heat loss with aluminum heads to make up the power loss.
So the only real advantage to the L98 heads are the fact that u lose weight and they flow better than the stock 305 heads.
