convertible top liner

Ok ,i know this is going to sound stupid, but my question is, i see alot of talk about liners when people refer to convertible tops.i have had my vert for 9 years now,and yes i need to replace the top,the liner does it cover the whole under side of the top ? mine just has two wide canvas strips on each side.Is this the liner everyone talks about ,or is my car missing it? believe it or not i have never actually looked at another vert while the top was up.Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe they started putting the liner in these convertibles in either 1989 or 1990. I have a '90 and my car came with one. It covers the entire underside of the connvertible top .

They started putting the liners in in '90. Needless to say, when I saw that, I was a little upset being that my '89 didn't come with one! . From what I understand, the top frame structure was changed a little in '90 also, maybe to accomidate the extra material??

so this is probably where the different measurements come from when ordering a replacement top,i know you have two areas you have to measure,so you get the right top.thanks ,you guys have been very informative.

Can you install a standard headliner from a with one to one that didn't come with one is the good question. I would really like to add one to my car and make the inside look nicer with the top up.

thats a good question,be nice to know if anyone has done it ,or if it can be done.i am thinking the inside of the tops the bows and stuff might be a little different on the cars that came with the liners.

There isn't really that much to the headliner itself. There are a couple of U shaped plastic pieces that you would probably have to get from a junked vert, but with most of the parts you could probably just take measurements and make one on your own.
