The emergency tonneau release consists of a black cable on each side of the car that you pull to manually release the latches. The loop for the cable is near the rear seat back latches on each side. Remember this is only for emergency use. You'll still have to sort out the problem with your tonneau release switch. Try pulling up the e-brake first. The e-brake has a switch to ground the tonneau release relay. The other safety switches are the Neutral safety switch (autos) and the rear trunk latch sensing switch.

Thanks Lon, that worked. Ive seen thoes cables before a long time ago and I figured they were for that, but forgot about them. It is my switch that is not working, I did check it with my test light and the selonoids work, so if you have any of these switches or know where I can get one please help me out. Thanks again.

Randy92Z,
Don't forget there is probably an interlock switch in the trunk that is engaged when the trunk lid is down. This is to prevent you from opening the tonneau with the trunk lid up.
that is providing they did the same in 92 that they did in previous years.....
Lon you'd know better than anyone on that probably.

Where is the Emergency Brake switch?
I've never heard of the emergency brake having to be on for the tonneau switch to work.

Sorry I forgot to mention that the parking brake switch info only applies to cars equipped with a manual transmission. It is a safety feature, (just as the use of the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) on an auto equipped car) to prevent you from opening the tonneau (or hatch on a coupe) while moving. The parking brake switch is on the rear portion of the e-brake assembly. It is a tan with white stripe wire.
The tonneau release relay is located at the base of the parking brake. The wire leading to it from the tonneau release switch is brown. There is an orange wire that is hot at all times that leads to the tonneau release switch.
The tonneau release fuse is in the #11 position, third column from the left, third row down, 20 amps.

Check the Trunk
Before you decide the switch is bad check the Trunk lock out.
There is a connection that has to be made at the trunk closer. Like the neutral safety switch it prevents the tonneau from being raised when the trunk lid is up. Were this to happen you would at the least scrape paint if not bend something...
Remove the screws holding the back trim piece in the trunk and look on the left side down toward the bottom of the trunk closer. There should be a wire plugged in there. check the connection and make sure it is plugged in. You could probably short across the two wires to simulate a closed trunk and try the tonneau switch again. It might just be that the limiting switch there in the trunk needs adjusting or like in the case on my car it will probably be just a loose connection...
Good Luck!
