ConvertiblesDiscussed here are problems and solutions to convertible specific questions, including difficult to find part numbers and other convertible tech help.
I purchased a 1985 Z28 w/ the 305 TPI and 700R4. It originally came from the factory as a t-top and was converted by a company called Matrix3. I found the sticker in the door jamb. Does anyone have any info on this company or know of anyone else with a car converted by this company?
I need a new top and the two shops I showed the car to gave me estimates of $1200 and $1500 (way too much money for me to come up with).
If anyone can give me an idea on where I can go for a new top I'd greatly appreciate it.
I went to some place in huntington cost me like 300-350 or so plus i bought the top off topsonline.com for whatever that cost total for top and installation was about 700

His was one of the non ASC verts though. A few companies made them. Their tops are all different than the ASC versions and usually have to be custom made.
i have one too can't find anything about it yet. On the door the sticker has the day and serial number on it. My car is a 1984 camaro. It also has two plates on the bottom of the car near the door.
I have an '84 also -- dont know who built it ----a reply from "Top-Down Solutions" made note of plates riveted to the frame on conversions done by ASC ------ does yours have a power top. or a manual top?
My car has an automatic top. I heard there was only a few made and the top came from the factory. on the side of the car it has a metal stamp that says mx3. The car then has a label on the door with the date 8/83 the car is an 84. Thanx
I also have an 84 matrix 3 convertible. My father purchased it brand new from chevy dealer in Denver. The company that did the conversions was located in Fresno. He was told by dealer a mercedes top was used on these cars but when the top was replaced none seemed to match so a custom one had to be made.
Your estimates seem high, just got a quote for ~700 to make a top for a truimph.
By the way have any of you had to replace the pot metal piecies that connect the front latching plate to the top rails? Mine are broke and I'm not sure how to fix, rivited pieces together with a piece of metal for now.
Pictures of the parts are good as well... I'd like to see the different systems employed and styles. I'd been shopping for a convertible Eldorado Cadillac of 84/85 vintage, prior to that, they were custom made, same as F cars. The factory conversion just seems the best one and I think GM was looking out for the best conversions. I know the designers were not in the least happy with some aftermarket tamperings
Bill
there were some threads before on matrix convertibles, try a search,
but i have to say that most of matrix conversions were done in 1983
and 1984, i have seen only few in 1985, could u post some pics of ur
z28 with the top up/down
Here is mine. I took my driver's test in this car in 1985 and drove it to the prom in the same year. Dad has had it in his shop all these years. It's 1984 that he rebuilt with a 289 with high cam and 4 barrel carb, 300 miles on it maybe. It was originally white and black with the stock hood. He changed out the hood and re-painted it gunmetal gray.
