Am I Nutts??
Hi fellas. I am going to try to keep this briefe. I have a chance to buy a '87 Iroc Vert. The asking price is $4750.00. Now the car is red, 305 - 5spd, 67,000 Miles on it and doesn't appear to have any major or kinda minor issues. Here's my issue, I already have two camaro's. One camaro is in pieces because I am stripping the undercoating to Por15. The other is my RS daily driver. Everybody knows Xmas just passed, so money is a little tight. My wife has been very supportive of my hobby, but I don't think she is going to like this proposition. Am I crazy for wanting this car now. I mean, it is my dream car! I don't want any other car for my "classic/muscle car" other than it. What do I do!!
Oh, I have until Wendsay to make my decision(I just found out about the car today.)

No question. Sell one of the others and go for the vert.

Ok, I know it is my responsibility to save this car from a less deserving individual. But what if I don't want to sell one of the other cars. Does that make me nutts?? (By the way, I am not independantly wealthy, I think I will owe my wife for years if this goes through.

If your are inclined to make it your daily driver, get rid of the more boring RS. Very good price for the miles and a factory conversion... Compare to mid 80s Eldorados or late 80s Vettes as far as price, it's a nice deal, however, I prefer my tunedport 350 with auto tranny

Actually Bill, I have modified my RS a little bit. I tossed in a new '93 Caprice 350 Lo5 engine/with an 87 TPI Setup. I have 3.42 limited slip rear and headers. This car is fun to drive as a daily driver. If I do get the vert it would be the Garage Queen. It would be like "your dads old hot rod sitting in the garage." You know, the one he won't let you touch. I have absolutly no plans of modifying or changing the car in any form. I want to keep it stock. I would put maybe 3,000 Miles on it a year and only when its sunny out. This car ain't no toy!

Well, mine's more rare in history, yet I drove the heck out of it, so I'm the one who's nutts it seems. Good find though, not bad at all

Cars are like real estate, In that the buy of a life time comes by every week to ten days. You need to be fair with your family. If you can't part with the RS, let the convertible pass. Yeah I know it is tough. I have have let a few cars slip though my fingers because I can't part with my vert. It's not easy being car crazy.

That car as it sits is probably worth close to twice that amount if it is clean. For that price, I might even fly out there and pick it up myself!

Thanks for the support guys. I would defiantly part with the RS if that's what it took to get the vert. Believe me, I wouldn't let my family suffer financially. My wife and I have no children, no significant outstanding debt, except the house note. But, it still tough. I feel a little greedy and selfish. But at the same time, the car is IMOP a rare find. 1 of 1007. Its got the FE2, G92, 305 5spd. I mean what more could you want in a collectible?? I think if it were a standard vert or one in poor condition I don't think I would consider it. But all I have to do is drive this car. Right now, its in the wife's hands. Will see what happens.

Well that's it ...dump the RS and grab the vert!!!
If you don't buy the vert please e-mail the info. I can swing $4800 for another convertible.
Just kidding ,we already have two Camaros a Nova and a Mustang at the house .The wife would shoot me! Oh I almost forgot a Volvo ( the only car she likes)

What the heck are you waiting for?
GO B U Y I T !!!!!!!!!!!
You don't find cars like that every day.
Take your lady with you when you go. If she says absolutely hell no then you had probably better pass. But I would at least get her to go look at it with me before she vetoed the plan.
We all know - "If mama ain't happy - Nobody's happy!"
Good Luck!

Actually I drove the car by my wife's job last night. She works 1/2 mile from my job. I just slapped the tag off my RS and drove it up for the final ok. It was a little warm last night so I dropped the Top for the extra bad look. She loved it. Man I have a cool wife!!! She gave the ok. I am full speed ahead. And, I am certifiably nutts!!!! So is my wife! I think we need help!!

Congrats!!

Thank's, I'll try and do something with the pics. Right now they are all about 500,000 bytes or more. I'm not sure how to shrink them down to size. I have about 35 pictures in my computer. I'm not a story teller. So, I speek the truth. The car is what it is. Thanks for all your support.

I'm glad to see you bought it. I did the same thing when I found my vert. I already owned 2 Camaros but still bought it. Now I have to figure out which other one to get rid of, and what cars are getting what parts swapped over. What a mess I have. Good luck with your mess.

Nice buy!!
Listen, that car seems identical to mine when I first bought it - however, I have only a very few (very bad!) pics of it before I started doing stuff to it, so I'd be very interested in seeing some more pics of it as time permits.
Again, congrats on a nice buy and an awesome wife! My wife is also very supportive on my car-nut hobby

Keep her low miles and beautiful. More and more 3rd gens are going to the boneyard or whatnot. That's one nice car. Good find.

Look. My vert has 170K miles on it. It's still driving strong. The hard part is keeping them 'like new'. Do that by driving within the law (as fast as you can to 45 MPH is not bad), regular oil changes and preventative maintenance, and regular coats of wax.
Did I mention that I wish my commute to work was longer than 4 FREAKIN' MILES? What a drag. Oh... and you done good. That car looks like a peach!

4 mile commute to work? How about mine? Just two/three blocks from my apartments, which was intended. ;:~) Anyway, I openly admit when I did make a trip to pick up a work buddy, we drove in record time to get to work at 130MPH in the express lane...while it was empty. Boy, you can't beat that rush, let me tell you. We do need an autobahn in the States, but people could maybe be charged and sign a waiver to use it, you'd accept any liability hehehe

BTW, my AOL Hometown web space was maxed out uploading my most recent digital pics of my Bird, in fact, only space for one. Anyone know of another resource for hi-res hosts...big pics over the minimum here?
