General convertible question.

Is anybody elses convertible a squeaky, flimsy, rattling P.O.S. like my 89 IROC? How much will SFCs help? Who makes SFCs for verts? Some makers specify NOT for verts on their connectors, some makers don't specify at all. What brand SFCs are you guys running? Who's happy with theirs? SFCs are my next mod,and I need to know.

The Alston SFC's I sell will fit convertibles and coupes. Yes it helps tighten the chassis. Rattles and squeaks are very anoying. Putting adhesive-backed foam between all the interior trim pieces and keeping them tightened will help a lot. Use a dab of 3M trim adhesive on the screws when you re-install them to help keep them snug. You can also use generous amounts of Dynamat or equivalent on the door, floor, trunk area to kill the vibration in those panels. Killing the vibration will go a long way in stopping the rattles.

Just click on the TDS Sponsor logo at the top of the page. The SFC's are under the Suspension/Chassis/Brakes category. They are listed as bolt-ins, but I recommend welding them in either instead or bolting them or in addition to. That is why I offer the install kit as an option.

Mine squeaked a little before I got the strut tower brace. Now it doesn't make much noise at all. No complaints. Lon's SFC's would be next.

Just had the Spohn sub frames welded on to my 88 Iroc vert, very happy with the results.

Mine doesn't squeek consistantly so I've lived with some flex, though the strut tower brace is certainly worthy of mention too.

Unibody cars are not the best sports car designs, as my Cadillac employs that too. The story of David Hasselhoff jumping a Knight Rider car and discovering the landings that resulted tell the painful reality (1st season DVD) hehe

The TDS SFCs look pretty good to me. Are they finished in paint or powdercoat? I didn't notice in the ad. Should I do anything to ensure that the chassis is square before I start putting these in? As much as it flexes, I'd be really surprised if the chassis wasn't a little bit tweaked. I've been pretty hard on it over the years. The car has a factory wonderbar. Would buying an aftermarket one still be smart money? I can sure see the possible benefits of the STB, and I'll put that on my list of things to get.

They come powder coated. Black

As far as checking your 'tweaking' now, guess a body shop would have to ensure that for you.

However, when it comes time to install. Lon provides a very good set of detailed instal instructions on how to be sure you aren't tweaked when you install.

I also had a factory wonder bar on the IROC. Swapped it out for Lon's

It is a thicker diameter steel....don't know / can't say that just THAT would have made any real difference..since the SFC's and new bar went on at the same time.
