Thaughts?

Hey Guys, I used to own a 91' Rs Vert... but some freaking guy made a VERY illegal, and unusual left turn around the people in front of him, and right into me. (pictures below)

But, With the settlement money, I have Baught this Vert off of E-bay. I'm usually one to build for hobbies sake (and to make sure it gets done right), but i whent on a limb and picked up this camaro (link below). Claims 500hp, w/ Supercharger. 1986 Z28. I figured if done right, the engine/tranny alone is worth 10k.

Take a look, tell me what you think? I'm flying down to pick it up next Saturday. I'm really concerned about Frame reinforcment, as 500hp could twist a vert frame like a pretzel!

Ohh, and mabey somone can back me up. Doesn't a stock 86 Z28 have a different dash? And if you look closely, does that say Anniversary Edition under the Z28 Dash emblem?? I'm thinking somone put a 92' dash in the 86.

VIN = 1986
Ground Effects = Not late model
Dash = 90+

All in all, in the end, as long as it runs like a champ, i'll be happy. A 22 year old, driving around a high powered sports car? Yea, i'll be beating the girls off of me!!! ...no, not really. But i'll be happy!

What's the story on the conversion to the convertible? Should have been a 305 coupe I believe. Looks like it could be a non-factory ASC converion or a 87-92 vert donor car. It's not one of the 2 seater conversions. It has to have extra support underneath. It will be fun to drive - better add a roll cage

What makes you think it was a non ASC Vert?

Mabey somone can better make out the VIN then me, but what i could find it only specifies that it's a 2-door fbody camaro

I think it looks like a ASC vert, but Chevy didn't re-introduce the Camaro convertible until 1987. This does not mean it isn't a ASC vert. They could have did the conversion.

You can get a breif VIN readout at http://www.dmv.org/used-car-vehicle-history.php. Also information at http://members.***.net/camarors/3rdgenvindecoder.htm.

For a custom car like this I don't see it making much difference, I was just wondering if there was a story behind it. A 86 vert with 500hp is unique. Someone spent way more than $10k to create this car.

I didn't know that. hmm... I'll have to take a good look once i get down there. There should be an ASC stamp on door jam right? I know my 91 had 1 there and 1 in the center console. Might have the dealership take a pic of it.

Thanks for the info.

If you know verts, you can tell this is def an ASC vert, or at least all the vert parts are ASC parts. This could have been a T-top car that got converted......either by ASC, or someone else with an ASC vert donor car

We can also tell you it's NOT a 1986 or 1987 ASC conversion. What you've got there is a mish-mash of parts from different years.

Ohh man, it's SOOOOooo Bad ***!!! It's got to be right up there around 500hp!! (as stated).. It's beautifull!!! the Engine is STRONG, and the Tranny feels Great!!! Posi Rear and DAMN the exhaust is loud!!!

It does need a few things. First the carb needs tuned (air/fuel shows constant extream lean - ?), fuel gauge not working (aftermarket pump), Frame reinforcement, and it's got all orginal suspension (still feels like new, but not as good as my 91).

This guy paid LOTS of money on parts, but then did a CRAP job on wiring. It's kinda sad some of the things he did. I'm going to go through and re-do some of it, so it's all good.

I've never actually worked with carb's before, so this is a big learning experience for me. I flooded it out this morning, and tried and tried to start it but nothing. (yes i let it sit for about 3 minutes inbetween trying).

And i think there is deff somthing up with fuel system. the gauge showed 3lbs at idle. I checked this morning what it hits with just the key turned (not running) and says about 1.2lbs...?? sounds WAAAAYYY low to me....

but damn, this car is freaking Hot!!! ... and suprisingly it got about 16+ miles/gallon from southern florida to South Carolina. Not bad at all for the amount of power.

Only pics i have are the ones i saw before i baught it.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2113039

Unfortunatly, it blew an ignition coil this morning.. easy diagnose, easy fix. But i got it running just in time to blow a gasket on the carborator. fun fun...

so now i'm looking at 2+ weeks of downtime. But That'll give me a chance to get down and dirty with alot of the stuff and make sure nothings obviously wrong. (radiator hose was REALLY loose, and wiring is Very shabby).

Well, if your looking for the cloth, I wouldn't recomend it. The back window is busted up bad. and I've got worn holes just around the window jams...

And as for hardware, i think i need to rob some parts... this top is missing...somthing... it's heavy AS HELL to put up... and there is a bar that i have to manual push back to close correctly.

Sorry man.

the part I need most is the piece that forms the "b" pillar on the driver's side. This is the main hinge. It goes from the mounting point to just over the edge of the roof. Mine is broken. I'll send pics if you think we can work something out.

your wrecked vert doesnt have the same top release handle as the 89's did does it? cause i need one so that i can release my top in back to fold it forward so that i can pop the tonneau.

Its cable driven and located on side of car behind driver seat.

if you got it lemme know.. im in columbia!

I don't think i need that, (if anything i might need the passenger side... it looks bent compared to the other side...) I'm not sure exactly what i need, as i need to compare, but I'll let you know. And i'll only ask for what it costs to pull it from the yard and ship it... I ain't trying to make a profit... lol.

I believe so, It's Cable version. But the spring was broken on mine after so much fatigue. All the other hardware was good. I'll pull it as soon as i get the chance. (again just cost from yard and shipping).

----------

....As soon as i get the carb rebuilt/replaced i'll probably try and track it down. If you guys live close enough i can probably tell you where it's at. if not just give me a week or so.
