Finally Bought a Vert!!

And ive found a 89 RS l03 A4 Black on Black on Black for 2800.00

Body looks pretty straight, but the rear spoiler is missing. Looks like there was a attempt at repair, but failed. Interior looks good.. no major issues, other than i think the driver seat has the normal issues (tear/wear) It has a cover on it. Top looks decent, but not great..

paint is shot almost.. in my book. It looks like an econo job to me.. might be able to get some shine out of it with wet sanding and high buffing.. maybe.

Would you say 2800.00 is a good idea? I don tknow mileage, but car is supposedly got working air too.. power windows locks, and trunk. The main thing that is drawing me to it is the color combo. I hate the rims, they are the old standard cheapo rs rims. but for a v8 vert, factory car (ran the vin.. digit is a 3. ) body panels are straight too..

what should I look for on this car.. to see if its good or not i guess is what Im asking. The only other 3rd gens ive owned are 91-92's.. so the 80s are kinda a new area for me.

Thanks

-Steve

well.. I test drove the car saturday. It felt real good.. strong shifts in the tranny, good smooth motor. very quiet. I assume factory exhaust. I think the top needs re-done though. Interior is straight for the most part. Flawless dash pad. Good carpet. I think im going to go get her tonight...

Spoiler middle section needs replaced. Hatch release handle needs replaced too.. other than that.. i think its good.

Well then, this may be too late:

Reference thread for Vert Shoppers

If you get this car and do not post pics of it we will all think you are a liar.

Ok, well here it is .. I did it. i am now the proud owner of an 89 RS. Car is a L03/A4 with power windows, power locks, cruise control, and the Air Conditioning actually still works.

Im sure you'd like to see some photos so here they are. Sorry its so crappy of photos.. but it was darker out than i thought it was with the camera.

This is the only photo i have of the interior so far, so I thought i'd throw it in here. I got to do something about the wool seat cover. it has to go. I still havent cleaned it yet either, so bear with its looks and over look the dirt.

When I decoded the RPOS, it stated it was a FE1 car. Ithought I read somewhere that that was rare.. is it? It has something to do with suspension package, but im not sure what it could mean.

So there it is in a nutshell.. you can see where the spoiler needs replaced in some of those pics, and what not. You can also see the body is mostly straight. What do you all think? Was it a wise buy? I had to sell my 91 RS Lo3 / a4 t top car for this one. I made a profit off the 91, and still had money to spend after i bought this vert so I think i came out good financially anyways.

What would you all value her at being an 89? in this shape?

Thanks again.

thanks man. she looks even better now ive been working on her a bit. new seat cover (gotta get me 4th gen leathers soon) and put z fog lights in her, removed the RS grille, changed all filters, put all silverstar headlights in her, etc. Now just need a spoiler to replace the factory one. Also went ahead and had the windows blacked out. (cept the plastic one.)

So its coming along. I will try to get a couple better photos soon.

Future mods hopefully are gonna be the 4th gen leather Camaro Seats, new carpet, a guage pillar pod with Autometer guages (volts, Coolant Temp, Oil Pressure) Im thinking chrome 18" Iroc Z rims, and a 90-92 z28 hood like yours.. I like those blisters.

you may think about changing that engine to TPI...i used to have an '89 RS convertible, and at about 85,000 miles that engine crapped out on me...it was misfiring and all kinds of things, now i can't really blame all that on the fuel injection, but i know you'll enjoy the car alot more if you change it...

Ive never done a tbi to tpi conversion, it is something I'd like to think about, but it depends on what all it entails. I just got done actually rebuilding my buddy's TPI 305 88 GTA and my other buddys (my old car) 91 RS 305 TBI. I think i know both motors pretty well, but Im not so sure about a conversion.

The RS is nice, it is a cruiser for sure.. but its a turd. Slowest v8 I think Ive ever driven. highly restrictive. If I ever pull the motor out of her I think a 355 cammed forged edelbrock headed poster child will go in it.

But Im thinking still on weather or not to keep her stock too. its only got 73k on the clock, and even has factory exhaust.

TO Be, or not to be that is the question I ask the emiisions!
