'89 Vert
Hey guys,
I have a '92 t-top RS that will soon become my project car but my question is:
Is a '89 vert in good condition worth $2000? The car belongs to my mom and has about 105,000 miles with a new hood, new cloth top, and new rear tires. It's an LO3 305cid with auto tranny (700R4?).
Let me know what you guys think!

Are you kidding? Buy it for 2k and then throw it on here or ebay and make a quick grand. The L03 engine is a bit of drag but a 'vert is a 'vert. If it is rust and damage free 2k is a no brainer.

i bought my 88 for 2k. i think its a great deal esp. if it was your mothers so you at least know some history on the car. (kid who had mine before hacked it up or it was the owner before him)

I think I got a good deal this week - 1987 IROC 'vert, blue, 78k original miles, two owners (one guy, then his brother). Power options including power seats, etc. $2600
It was in IL, though, and cost me $900 to ship it. Good news it that it is being picked up today by the truck, and will be in CA on Tuesday.
So I guess I'm in the thing for $3500 - but still, that's not bad. And although it will need to be painted, and some TLC, I think it's still a pretty good deal. Many cars that old will need paint anyway, and once repainted in the factory blue it should be really nice.

i'll put it in personal terms...
i used to have an '89 convertible RS, 305, auto, had quite a few miles on it. ....traded it in at the DEALERSHIP for $6,000....this was only 2 years ago when i got my Z28 from that same dealer.
the funny thing is that the engine was misfiring and i got 6K out of it...haha...suckers!!!
so yes $2,000 is a steal...

well that was b/c my dad is stubborn as a mule....
he said 6K or no purchase. they wanted to give us like 4,800 or something like that....and he was like i'm not going to buy that Z28 if i dont get 6K...we actually gave up on it, totally forgot about the thing but 3 weeks later they were like "we've reconsidered, it's a deal..."
lol i love my dad haha...

Thanks for all the replies guys! I'm trying to get a second job (part-time) at Advance Auto Parts near here to save up the money I'll need to buy it. My parents are moving to the other coast of FL so when they move they're selling the 'vert so my mom can get a new car. The car has no rust, and does have power windows and locks that all work
I'll definitely have to pick it up then... thanks everyone for ur opinions

I'm not the most knowledgable about fuel injection but I am planning on doing the LT1 swap in my project car.... I dunno if TPI would really help for my project car? Or did you mean for the 'vert?

i was reffering to the RS vert. you will want to swap that TBI system for a TPI system for better results. but i guess you already have plans for an LT1 so scrap the TPI idea lol

I've returned!
I only recently got an email from the site, along with a new computer that is blocking sent information via Norton. In the past, I had no security software in place, and for several years I eeked by, until Trojan City!!!! UGH, let me tell you, $140 to clear viruses no fun!
I have an 89 Formula 350 vert and two people here expressed interest. As I paid $8600 when I got it with 43+K, I'd offer it now at $4500 in present condition, as you see, I love rare cars and the vert would be VERY hard to let go and replace, though practical and easy, another story!!
My winter beater is an 88 Deville in better overall shape. Considering $2K is the current street price, I see a very viable option in buying a clean donor and swapping needed parts. Right now I'm looking at vented rotors on eBay to do all my discs
A new top put on this week, hopefully... FINALLY. It's been summer ya know hahaha

So do you think I should use the 'vert for the project car instead or should I stick to my plan of using the 'vert for the daily driver and using my t-top for the project? The project car gets the LT1/T-56 but whichever car I don't do could get TPI instead of TBI...
It would be cool to do a vert except I wouldn't really be able to do much for a sound system which isn't a huge deal.... that would be kinda cool to do a vert.

That's what I'm startin to think cuz my daily driver should have the nice system in it to listen to - if I did the 'vert as the project car I wouldn't have to worry about fixin up alot of little things like I do on my t-top. My t-top needs a driver side window motor, passenger door lock, hatch release button needs to be fixed, rear view mirror re-attached, spoiler fixed, etc... Plus my t-top camaro is having some issues with gas mileage right now, I think maybe the O2 sensor went bad cuz the car is getting less than 10mpg when it used to get 20/28 - city/highway. I'll be looking into that soon cuz that's a killer.
The 'vert doesn't need any of that so it might be easier to start with plus I can still do most of the mods I wanted to do the t-top car on the 'vert instead

exactly.....and imo convertibles look more impressive when they are clean vs. t top cars....
at least 3rd gens do, not so much with the 4th gens. i haven't seen too many 4th gen verts that really stuck out that i liked
