Do you know what exactly is different about the front seatbelts. I assume its the retractor for the shoulder harness. It MIGHT be possible to have a qualified person disassemble them and use the new belt, but the original mechanism... Of course I have not looked at my vert to determine what is different, it could be really simple OR it could be completely different.

I thought about doing that a while ago, the problem is nobody wanted to touch it because it was a "safety concern" The reel mechanism are diffrent sizes, but nearly the same shape, the problem is theres no room down there to mount a hardtop version which is why they have these secondary units. I thought about making some sort of adapter plate so you could use a hardtop version, but then i just gave up on it and kept looking for some black front seatbelts...im still searching....

There isn't a junkyard that will have a cross reference for seatbelts. Trust me, I work at one.

here is the one I found originally:
Homepage

kind of pricey. their quote was vague especially since I know almost nothing about seatbelts. anyway their price quote is $90-130 per retractor. BUT, I found this other one searching a little bit ago that I am going to call up sometime and see if they can do anything here is their link:
Replacement seat belts for Cars, Trucks, Vans, Jeeps, Classic Cars, Vintage, Street Rods & RV's

if anyone get the urge to call before me go ahead and post whatever info you get from them.

also was wondering 92 Formula you still have the 87 vert? I am starting to put back some of the stuff the preivious owners removed and I need a good shot of the manual tonneau release. there was noting on mine other than the pin (on the top frame) and pin slot (on the tonneau) no linkage rods or handle or anything anyway I got all of it but I can't get the rocker to line up on the holes. anyway if you still have it could you send me a pic? that way I can figure out if the tonneau was replaced or what is going on. Thx

I've used Ssnake-Oyl for my old '69 Camaro SS 350 I used to have. They were good. I talked to them, too, concerning out 3rd gen seat belts but they seemed hesitant (at the time) to show any interest in doing them. I forgot the price they quoted me. The other company looks interesting. I will probably check into them, too.

Yes, I have the '87 Vert still. PM me with exactly what you want me to take pics of and I will be more than happy to supply them and any others you may want.

Thanks,

James

Hmm. Mine has a solenoid on it that releases the seatbelt when you open the doors.
