WEll my vert got broken into last night in the worst way...

And now i have a 3 foot hole in my roof..... Unfortunatly they stole the face but not the radio, so it does me no good, i have a feeling they might come back for the rest, but they wont find it because ive already removed the radio portion. The real bummer is they kicked in the middle bow and broke it, and i know thats going to be super hard to find, and thats really what bums me out. So basically they got nothing out of ripping my top and breaking in, everything else was fine. The thieves must have been less than intellegent they didnt even take my CD case located under the pass. seat. I needed a new top anyway which is good, but im not sure if i can have it installed without the bow. If anybody knows anybody that can help me out that would be of big help.....

Wow that really sucks! It makes you almost just want to leave the damn car unlocked so that they don't ruin your stuff while trying to steal useless faceplates. I have a really hard time leaving my car outside during the daytime, and it has to be in MY garage at night.

Good luck on the top replacement!

I dont lock my car 99% of the time. Its not foolproof though, I know of at least one person that left the doors unlocked and windows more than cracked and they cut the top to get the door open.

Original radio. Nothing in the car more valuable than the top.

It stays unlocked.

Maybe a club on the column 'cuz I love it.

thats what paging alarm systems are good for when the alarm goes off the remote vibrates so i can go out and go
"say hello to my little friend!"

that actually happened to my dad's 68 firebird convertible back when he was in college..

I follow the same philosophy as Cadillac. I have the original Delco radio in mine. No incentive to cut the top or attempt a break in.

91Z28: I can help you out with that bow on your convertible top. I have a spare top frame from a 1989 I'm parting out. Contact me soon as I'm leaving Wednesday morning for the SEMA show. All orders must be placed and shipped out by Tuesday or you'll have to wait until Monday 9/6 for it to ship.

I saw an '89 rs vert in the junk yard on my last visit. I noticed that the front to back braces were broken. The side to side braces were still intact. If you need a part off of it maybe I can help. Maybe give you the JY phone # and you can work it out with them.

Holy crap! Never thought anyone was more stupid than the fockers that broke into my car. Yes I had a removeable face plate, but it was REMOVED the night they decided the cut my top open and look in the console for it anyway.

What a bunch of jack holes. Since then I leave it locked with a little blue blinking light and stickers on the windows that signify the Viper alarm I installed immediately after.

Man, that brutelly sucks!

Why is all the work up to you? Isn't insurance taking care of the repair. Let them worry about it as long as the work is done professionally. That's what it's there for. Or was there no claim or coverage?

ive never understood this train of thought anyway...

hey, lets break in to a car by trying to bends some metal bars and tearing thru thick canvas!!....

instead of just breaking a window.

i mean, you can cut canvas... and its a hell of alot more work and harder and takes longer then busting a window.. but atleast this way, we can distroy something thats around 1/3 the value of the entire car!!

My insurance wont cover this little act of vandalism, so about 1000 bucks it's going to set me back for the top, the install, a new bow and a new radio. I purposly installed the radio so it was easy to remove (so that if it ever got broken into they wouldnt trash the console getting it out) But these thieves are retarded so they took the face instead. I usually leave the face in the glove box, most thieves get what they want and leave, but some destroy the car if they cant get anything....

Still looking for a 2nd bow, unfortunalty i can afford to pay what lon wants for the 2nd bow, after the new top, and what install is going to run me im broke, (just those two things cost over 1000 bucks !)i may have to try and bend back my broken one and weld on a new rod and tap it.... If anybody knows anybody who's willing to sell the 2nd bow for under 50 bucks let me know, untill then it's a nice hole in the roof.....

P.M. sent.

I can go to the JY on Saturday afternoon.

I saw they had interior rear quarter trim. They would need to be recovered somehow because of exposure to the elements. Would they be worth anything? Should I grab them?

My wife had her Chevy Tracker broken into twice. First time they unzipped the top and broke the dash trim trying to get the radio out. Left faceplate and radio. Second time they broke the radio trying to get it out. Left face plate and jabbed a screwdriver through the top. This was a cheapie Sony too...

Now, on my Trailblazer, people keep stealing the Onstar Antenna - replaced it twice!

They need to execute these f**kers!
