anyone swap an LS1 yet?

Any convertible owners here swap an LS1 in? Just curious. I've been looking for a vert to do the swap. I remember seeing one a few years ago on ebay, it was a green bird that needed to be finished.

Mine dreams of one someday.

Can't really financially justify it since it's running good.

I hear ya on that. I might as well give up on my LSX dream for my car...after pricing the parts (getting the drivetrain from a wrecked car) and all the extra crap that is needed with such a big change from TPI to an LS1, I think I'm better off cost-wise with just going to a monster GenIII block with a HSR and a lot of goodies. You could build a monster for the price it would cost to do an LS1 swap and everything would fit into place just nicely because it's still a Gen III setup.

Hawksthirdgenparts does the conversions from $8000, to $20,000 depending on the detail and what you want done to it. Of course the prices might be higher now...

Re: anyone swap an LS1 yet?

I'd love to have a vert ls1 91-92.
Price is this
91-92 vert TBI $3500
98+ wrecked LS1 $3000
headers, motor mounts, fuel pump $1200
misc (weld your tranny mount, cross memeber etc) $800
Having a car that idles and runs smooth as silk, makes 350HP, and gets 25mpg. $8500

Did I mention you could also use the donor car to swap in the full interior and dash, rear axle if you wanted, aluminium driveshaft, and then sell the body panels,t-tops, misc off the donor car, along with the stock engine and tranny out of the 3rd gen for a few hundred.

Holy crap that's expensive. There are people around here that will professionally install and dyno tune an LS1/T56 swap into your car for less than $2,000 if you provide the motor and trans.

Re: anyone swap an LS1 yet?

I have one done by Hawks done about 3-4 years ago. It costs but you get what you pay for. It looks factory and has run perfect over three years. It's a daily driver year round.

A gen III/IV motor IS and LS* and an HSR won't bolt onto those. Do you mean Gen I small block?

Yes, that's what I meant. But of course I changed my mind again, seeing as TWO of my friends that are in my area have done their LS1 swaps on their 3rd gens, both of them in their own garages. I'm going to ask them to help me out when the time comes.

Well I know of a really really nice Formula that has a 6.0 LS1 6 Speed in it caged and ready to roll But its not a hard top but Its a complete clean turn key car for around $6k

But someone could buy it swap everything to the vert and put stock stuff back in the vert and have to clean cars
