1987 IROC-Z CONVERTIBLE 5-SPEED

I think I just purchased the rarest Third Gen. convertible in exsistance! Last night I drove three hours to pick up my latest project. 1987 IROC-Z 5-speed, TPI, grey leather interior, 4-wheel disk brakes. The car is 100% all original and has never been in an accident. All the vin stickers are still on the fenders doors, bumper support etc... I have owned alot of rare Camaro's but this one is amazing! I got the original conv. sales sheet in color, books etc... I had to share this with people who know these cars and how rare they are becomming. Here is a picture of it in my driveway. Thanks, IROCZJEFF

I believe awkfoz has you beat on rarity with his Formy 350 vert ... and of course there's that Firehawk vert ... but nice find nonetheless! And as far as Camaros go, yes that's probably one of the rarest. Treat her right! I love those white IROCs.

Re: 1987 IROC-Z CONVERTIBLE 5-SPEED

You are 100% correct those two cars are much more rare! I only collect Camaro's so I am unaware of the Firebird/Trans AM/ GTA/Fire Hawk numbers. I was reading some posts that some members think only 120 1987 Z28/IROC-Z's were built with 5-speeds?

Re: 1987 IROC-Z CONVERTIBLE 5-SPEED

It's so hard to tell since it was 21 years ago and I don't know if stats were actually kept of the RPOs (it would be so nice if it was all laid out in a nice spreadsheet), but I'd say that number is not far off considering they only built a total of 744 IROC verts that year. But regardless of its rarity, how cool is it that you have a 5-speed IROC vert!! Freakin' awesome. I wish my T/A was a 5-speed.

Oh, and you can change your sig to "From 410s to 308" now. LOL.

Is it a G92 car (3.45)? I am trying to find out how rare the G92 optioned LB9/M5 verts are.

He said 4-wheel disk, so it probably is. The RPO sheet will tell the tale, though.

Did you ever find out about the G92 RPO? That would make this car so much sweeter (and more rare). And, like said, it would be a 3.45 9-bolt. Awesome.

Re: 1987 IROC-Z CONVERTIBLE 5-SPEED

I am going to look tonight for the code. I talked to the original owner's son last night! I found paperwork with his name on it, so I called the number on the work order and left a message to call me back if someone ever owned a 1987 IROC-Z Conv. The son called me back last night and said it was his dad's car and that he bought it brand new! The son said his dad's health was failing so he sold the car in the late 90's to a kid and never saw the car again. The son said that the car was originally bought in AZ, which explains why the body is so clean and rust free. He was happy to hear that a Camaro collector purchased the car and was going to restore it to it's glory! Jeff

AZ car = awesome panels/subframe. It gets better all the time with this car, doesn't it?

The only downer to AZ cars is everything rubber deteriorates, which is typically a TON easier to fix than Rust...

My 67 Riv came from AZ and the Window moldings were ROCK hard and half missing...

Re: 1987 IROC-Z CONVERTIBLE 5-SPEED

Well this car just gets better every time I look at it! The car is a G92! I am going to clean it up this weekend and I will take some pictures of it and the tag with all the codes. Thanks for pointing out how rare the G92 option is. I thought I had a rare car when I bought my 1991 Z28 conv. 5-speed, black car, grey leather, factory CD player. I thought I had reached the top with my 1990 IROC-Z conv one of only 1247 white with red leather auto. This is by far is the rarest! Thanks everyone for your input. Jeff

Hi. I'm just a little curious where you sourced this statistic?
In 1990 Chevrolet produced 1294 IrocZ convertibles. What does the number 1247 represent? Also, the Holy Grail for all 3rd gen Camaro owners is to some day be able to cross-reference the our ride's options to see exactly how many were made of a certain combinantion of features. Until now, this was impossible. We could only get the build numbers for each individual option (or RPO). Thanks.

Re: 1987 IROC-Z CONVERTIBLE 5-SPEED

Well Jeff, another coup. Since you got me started, you can learn me about some of the stuff you're talking about. G92? You were talking to me about rear ends the other day, etc. I've thought about calling Tina or her dad and see if they replaced the original rear end and had the motor rebuilt. I'd like to know that stuff.

Re: 1987 IROC-Z CONVERTIBLE 5-SPEED

I hate to do what I am about to do but want the new Camaro bad. I am getting ready to put my deposit down on the new 2010 SS/RS Camaro. I am cleaning up my garage and decided that four of my Camaro's have to go along with some of my rare 60's Camaro motors! I am selling my 1985 IROC-Z with 24,000 miles, my 1988 5.7 IROC-Z, 1991 Z28 conv. 5-speed, leather, factory CD, and now for the hard one, my 1987 IROC-Z Conv. G92, 5-speed. I really don't want to sell my 87 Conv. but I really don't want a payment on my new SS/RS. If anyone is interested in the car please email or call me. I am not sure 100% what I am going to do with the 87, but one thing is for sure I want it to go to someone who will do what I was going to do to it. Make it perfect again. The 1987 is in need of a complete resto but is originally from Arizona so the body is rot and rust free. Please call or email with any questions. Jeff 216-905-1983

I realize this post has been on for a while. I have the same 1987 white IROC convertible with 5 speed, TPI, grey leather interior, G92 option the car is loaded. All original including paint. Any numbers on how rare this car is? Thanks Greg
