Re: ASC Prototype T/A
I think we should all have our cars appraised by this guy. Would someone let me know when he arrives back on our planet?
Even if the documentation can be substantiated, I doubt it will get one bid at the starting price. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Re: ASC Prototype T/A
I thought there was another member that recently purchased a 1986 ASC Firebird Convertible...
Honestly tho, although it is a neat car I would not trade him for my 1989 Formula 350 Vert... Maybe someone else would. You could technically buy a 1987-1989 Trans Am or Firebird vert and convert a 1986, Looking at it if you had the parts it would not be impossible...
I would like to know where the "3" number comes from that people are throwing around for the 1986 Firebirds. I have nothing official.
John
Edit, it was not a Firebird but an 1985 Camaro, my bad.

IMO not the best time to be selling something like this...

Re: ASC Prototype T/A
This being a prototype, it's a shame that 3 of his pics in his ad are wasted on showing it covered, and 3 are of the wheels, and 3 are of the engine. I understand the guy is trying to sell it, but you would think at least he would show some highlights of what really make it special...the custom convertible parts. The car only has 39,000 miles so I dont think it takes 3 pics to show how clean the engine is.... just my
I sure would like to get a close look at the parts tho and see how close they are to the production stuff....probably pretty close.
P.S. I sent him an e-mail to see if he could send me some. If he does I will post them up.

Re: ASC Prototype T/A
I have spoken/emailed with hundreds of people that own coach convertibles and way too often they think their car is a "prototype". I would assume he has no idea what he's talking about until he can provide documentation that his car was an actual GM sponsored prototype that was built by ASC. My guess is that the car is one of dozens and dozens made in '85 & '86 for Chevy and Pontiac dealers (the dealerships, not GM!), just like all the other conversions like AutoForm, Straman, Matrix3 and all the rest.
It is a special car, as are all the rest of the coach convertibles. It's just not a "prototype" until he can provide us the documents to prove it (I have already asked him to provide them).

Re: ASC Prototype T/A
There have been a few 1985's and more 1986's that were ASC Camaros, but I have never seen a ASC firebird prior to 1987. ASC does not have it in their literature either, they start with 1987 for the GM F-body programs, and there was three made apparently for the 1986 NAIAS....
The camaro's were NOT GM sponsored, nor were the Firebirds, you can call them "Production" as they were Produced and not one-offs. But until 1987 for the Camaro, and 1991 for the Firebird none of them were GM bonefied Certified. The nice thing about the ASC cars is they all share common pieces and finding most replacement parts is not as hard as the others.

Re: ASC Prototype T/A
Anyone else notice the Performance Sound emblem on the radio trim plate and the gain switch on the dash trim? hmmm, wonder how ASC squeezed the sound boxes behind the rear interior trim...

Re: ASC Prototype T/A
I have seen some vehicles SEMA prepared by aftermarket mfgrs similar to ASC and they stuff things in where they would never fly in production. Ive seen amps mounted to the bottom of the floor pan and fuel fillers behind truck bed panels that have about 8 -10 screws in it. Not real practical but then SEMA cars are not supposed to be.
