1992 Z28 Vert restore
Hi everyone I am sort of new I posted a few pics of my car. I paid $2500.00 it needs interior redone and a new top. It has 72K. Is it true the 5 Speed is rare? The car has red leather might switch that out.

Re: 1992 Z28 Vert restore
Nice find! I have the same one that I am going to be restoring, except I've got a 4 speed auto, red body with grey interior...
If you decide to get rid of the red interior I have the interior plastics in grey that we may be able to work out a trade for if you want to go that route...
And for the top look at topsonline.com - they've got some good prices and come highly recommended by a lot of guys on here, they've even got one with a glass rear window...
Good luck!

Re: 1992 Z28 Vert restore
I have not seen any "official" numbers of manual vs. autos for our year but I can tell you that in '92 Chevrolet only made about 1200 Z converibles... 17 years later I'd bet that there are probably less than 900 still on the road... In my book that is in the neighborhood of rare!
Re: 1992 Z28 Vert restore
there were 1,254 92 Z28 converts, and from what I have seen not a lot of 5 speeds although I have not seen actual#s
check inside your console bin, glued on the pass side should be the production codes sheet - if it is still there and legible you can download the code decoder from the 3rd gen website, then all you do is tyupe in one at a time and it will tell you what was on your car from the factory
I have had a couple 92s, current is Zconvert with 49k miles, done lots of work on the 92s I have had, let me know if I can help with info, not an expert but willing to share what I learned

The 5 speed Is a little more desired. It is with almost any performance car, in fact I dont really recall to many 5 speeds that were z's
I'd keep it.
I'd keep it.

I have located the rpo codes. I will try an decode them tonight. I almost thought this was a heritage car but its not. I haven't seen a lot of white with red leather verts.

Nice car, looks like it won't take much to make it a real head turner. I agree about keeping the red leather, even though I hate red interior. Not only would it be costly to switch everything out for grey or black, it would also devalue the car.

That kind of looks like the car in my yard! My buddy and I bought a 91Z28 for parts. $500.00 It had no motor and trans but I now have leather interior for my Iroc Posi rear rear end wheels and tires!

nice find .!! forget the rarity of the 5spd which in my honest opinion .. its harder to find a 5spd camaro "dont care which type" hard top / t top / convertible. Red interior on a white car goes good. Just re do the seats and your good.
I've got a white 91 z convertible but mine has tan interior.

Yah, I have white RS with a red interior - I wouldn't have minded if it had a tan interior, but I'll learn to like the red - Don't know where I'd be able to find a whole 'vert interior. You have a pretty nice car to start with, keep us all posted on your progress.

Yea I think I am keeping the red interior with a new black top. What do you guys think about putting the Heritage Stripes on? The real ones not home made style! The car is white with red interior.

I'd say go for it, they would look great in red to match the interior and really tie the car togather.

Re: 1992 Z28 Vert restore
Very nice ride. Having a 5-spd is a nice score and most people do find them do be more desirable, but it's hard to define rare. Out of the total Camaro production for '92 of 70,007 units, 14,224 were 5-spds, or ~20%.
Unfortunatley, there is no break-down as to % per model type. The closest is only a guesstimate of around only 251 '92 Z28 verts (20% of 1,254 total '92 Z28 verts).
Hard to find . . . yes.
Rare . . . depends. Each individual would define it a little differently. Especially since we can't provide actual documentation.
Keep her. And what ever you do to her (mod, stock, etc), the most important thing is that you enjoy your ride the way you want it.

Re: 1992 Z28 Vert restore

Don't have them on mine (yet) but they are a nice touch and would look very nice on the white...
If you ever change your mind about the interior keep me in mind! I'll buy yours or trade...

Good luck & keep us posted on your progress!
