Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
Gentleman I purpose to you this rather decent specimen of a 3rd Gen. It is an 88 IROC convertible from CA with a bad top and worst interior, but the seller swears that it is a true IROC which i did do homewrk and the vin checked out to say "All Models" So with that said there are a few rust holes in the floor small ones, and two surface rust spots. 5.0 TPI auto. Please enlighten me. Thanks

It is an IROC, w/TPI, but $3600 still Seems like a lot, considering it's gonna need a top, cosmetics, interior work, and who knows what else mechanically . . . For less money it would be a great start.

sounds like a rape a lemon..... its just bad i wouldnt' pay more than 1200 bucks. and that rust bucket would be more reasonable at 500.00 bucks. b/c let alone u going to be putting in 3 grand or more considering its in not the best condition.

I would say $1500-2000. And 1987 was the first year for the 3rd generation convertible. I just bought a 1991 Z28 vert with 37,000 original miles for $5000. I think I got a great deal, there are other nice cars for a better price than that.

in comparison, i paid $3500 for a 91 Z28 vert with TPI that was like minth in comparison, it needed a few minor things but nothing by any means compared to what that thing needs.

Re: Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
i paid $1500 for my 88 iroc vert that is in the same condition. i knew what i was getting into and what it would cost to get it running and restored. i have a storage unit full of parts from a few parts cars so i was able to save some money there.
as i started restoration on my 88 i found new problems i didnt see when i first bought it. be prepared for that. as for this find, i wouldnt pay no more than $1000 to $1500.
if your going to spend more than that, look for one in a better condition.

Overpriced by far.
If you're REALLY interested I can go look at it but given the condition (both the stated and what I see in the pics) and the price he wants, not much point. I'd spend my $3k somewhere else.

I just paid $150 for an 89 rs t tops. Dont buy that car. Bad part is that if you dont buy it then it will just sit for another 10 years. Group buy it, or tell someone that can blow money. That Poor car needs a new owner.

Re: Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
Hiya fellas! I am back with some great news on this convertible i was intending to buy. I tried my best to get the guy down on the price, first of all but to know avail. So i actually had to go out on a limb and TRUST the guy that the car was as solid as he says it was. Well not really, i had my little brother who lives out in cali go take a look at it with a microscope. My brother (who is just as much a car junkie as i am) got back to me with favorable findings! So i bought the Iroc at 3 grand and it came about 3 weeks ago now. And i was definitely more surprised by its condition than upon intitial viewing. Those pics sucked big time. But without further ado here she is, my latest addition:

Re: Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
With a little TLC (TIME+LOVE+CASH) she will shine soon!
The only spots of rust are on the driver A pillar and right front corner of the hood (surface). The driverside rear floor pan has a couple cancer holes the size of a quarter that should be no problem, thats it. everything else is solid. All she needs is a tune up, top, interior(which i found), rim restoration, and paint. I have been driving her on the weekends already, TOP DOWN YA DIG!!!

As long as you're happy with the purchase you should be ok. The interior could have been in better shape though... But like I said as long as you're happy with it you're good to go!

Re: Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
the smell was almost unbearable! but with the help of some interior from a 89 i pillaged in the local junk yard and a bottle of car freshener, she's tolerable. the best thing is it didn't take me long to score the exact interior thats in this one from another 88 Iroc vert! this one i found just happens to be a 5speed but needs major work.

Re: Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
actually i am gonna keep it somewhat similar to the color it is rather than the original color its supposed to be, which is burnt orange. i plan on painting it copper with a light flake in it. stock tan interior which i just picked up today, and a peanut butter ragtop! she oughtta be sharp when she's finished.

Good thread. Glad it worked out. Nothing funner than driving one while your working on it. Its funny, I want to paint mine your original burnt orange, and sounds like you want to paint yours my original copper..

Have you done anything with it like start sanding?

Oh yeah! She is at the 95% ready stage as we speak. Starting this weekend I will begin to post my "adventures" with her as well as phase pics while she is being transformed. She has literally come a long way from where she used to be. I am so proud of how well she has turned out. So please stay tuned to this thread...

Re: Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
Well here we are "THE MOMENT OF TRUTH". For those of you who have not been following the thread here's a quick recap: I had been looking for a sweet deal on a Camaro convertible when I happened to stumble on what I thought to be a great find on Craigslist. Well I decided instead of me making the decision outright I would as my fellow third gen bros to see what they thought of the deal. It was a poorly kept specimen of an 88 Iroc convertible 305TPI auto. Well aside from the fact that its a convertible, nothing special, but what drew me to her was the color! I had never seen an Iroc convertible that color before so instantly I was hooked. I weighted all my bros comments and suggestions but decided to go with my gut instinct. Now she was no looker at first by any means, but I saw that sparkle in her headlight that told me she could be a head turner again someday. So I bought her for three grand, had her shipped here from Cali, only after having my little brother who lives there look her over for me and make doubly sure I was making a sound decision. She arrived beaten and battered by the brutal California sun and wind. But what an exciting feeling! She was ALL MINE. So obviously like any other car restoration I had to carefully weigh out my plan of attack. I went thru and identified all the trouble areas, which thankfully there were few. Got the rust holes patched up, tore out the putrid interior (cats had been using the poor girl as a public facility) I found some decent digs for her so I could get her around and proceeded to work on the engine. She was in desperate need of a tuneup, which after several flushings and the usual plugs, oil and such, she was road ready. I drove her around a bit (had to show her off like a proud papa) to work, a local car show or two. At one of the shows a guy I befriended told me about a neighbor of his who does paint and body work out of his garage. Well I was skeptical, but I figured what the hell lets see what he has to say. He saw her and after giving me a rundown on some the work he has already done, we agreed on a price to get her goin. Here is the progress thus far;

Re: Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
Did you have the ASC sub frame connectors removed? Otherwise I wouldn't see how those (UMI?) SFC's would bolt up. I was thinking of doing something similar to my vert, having the inner convertible sfcs welded in, then removing the factory ones, than adding UMI SFC's to her.
Cool project, you started with more than I did with my 88 IROC vert.

Re: Is this 88 IROC worth 3 Grand??
No I didn't remove anything and they welded right in (with dropping the exhaust of course). The only trouble I am noticing at the moment is when I drive her the Cat hits the SFC. So OFF IT COMES!!!! I will go str8 pipes and give her some killer sound. More pics...

I have always heard that those SFC's won't work with convertibles? What brand are they?

Yes its medium orange, the factory color. And I was the same way when I first saw her. I had never seen a vert or ANY Iroc for that matter that color. That's when I knew I had something special. Thanks for the luv.

I gotta quick question guys, anyone know where to buy the a-pillar weatherstrip for our cars. I don't need a whole set of weatherstrip (especially at those prices) but just for my a-pillars.
