Tonneau release will not work
Tonneau release will not work
I have a 1992 rs convertible ant he tonneau release switch will not work. There is no clicking at all when i hit the switch. I tried grounding the switch but nothing happened. I do not have a hatch pull down. I pulled the trim off in the back and found a loose plug with 2 wires on it 1 black and the other red. There is 12v at one terminal and the other terminal is a ground. If i jump the 2 terminals I can hear the poppers clicking and there is a relay back there just almost whines as long as i have the terminals jumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thnx rob

"I do not have a hatch pull down." BINGO! Fix the hatch pull-down unit and you fix the problem with the tonneau switch. There is a safety feature that ties in the pull-down unit with the tonneau switch. If the hatch (or trunk in your case) is open the tonneau won't release. It is to prevent the tonneau from being opened if the trunk is open.

Re: Tonneau release will not work
the 92 model 'verts didn't get a hatch pulldown motor. They just had a latch mechanism
The safety switch is still there though, and the relay has to verify that the trunk is closed before it allows the tonneau to release

Correct. Sorry I was in a hurry and didn't see the '92. From his description of the wiring I thought it was an earlier 91. Fix the switch and your tonneau will release.

Re: Tonneau release will not work
Guys, i have a question. I have a 1988 and the switch works but only one solenoid clicks and releases. The other side i have to release with the cable. I'm thinking the solenoid may be bad. If correct what type of shop would i send it to for repair?.....Or it could be something else entirely....

make sure the wire that leads from the safety switch in the trunk, to the solenoid is actually connected.
On my 88, the wire for the passenger side solenoid/popper had fallen out and was laying behind the panel

Re: Tonneau release will not work
Gosh, I'm having the same problem with the release switch and to make matters worse one of the side cables is not there, so I can't put the top down at all, and it's 75 here today perfect for top down!
