How many 88 ASC verts were made?
This one is about 30 mins from my house.

 

I believe the number for the total '88 Pontiac Firebird production was 104. Perhaps somebody could back me up on this?
How many were Trans Am? I'm not sure of the breakdown.

 

Iroctopless is correct. There were 104 Firebird verts done in 1988. The breakdown between firebird, Formula & Trans Am is not known Okfoz who is a moderator on these boards is a great source to ask..... She is a good looking TA.... Same color as my 88 Formula vert.

 

104 is correct, according to ASC. 88's are more the most uncommon, except for 1986 which apparently there were 3. The only down side is the lack of the 350 that year with T-tops...

If you find out any information, like the sequence number, let me know.

There is also an 89 350 GTA in LA http://losangeles.en.craigslist.org/...337637543.html if anyone is interested. Again, I would be interested in the sequence number (last 5 or 6 digits of the VIN) if anyone looks at it. It has been repainted.

While were on the topic, I found a 1987 Formula vert http://inlandempire.kijiji.com/c-Car...AdIdZ147947574 This one is strange, apparently being sold by the original owner, but they say it has never been repainted, but no decals anywhere... so I do not know what to think about this one. The woman selling it does not know what engine it has.

John - Here's the vin# 248386 for the 88. 5 spd, digital dash, unsure who converted it but looks like ASC, been painted and missing decals. For 41K miles, it's little rougher than I would expect. I have numerous pics he sent me.

 

Looks like a decent car for the price, especially considering how rare it is......

The 87 is intersting. With only 19,000 miles on her why wouldn't it have the Formy decals? John, was it possible Pontiac offered a decal delete option as Chevy did on my 88 IROC?

 

I am 99% sure it is an ASC conversion.

AFAIK, no the decal delete on the Formula did not partain to the Door decals, only the two tone stripe on the rocker panels and lower portion of the bumpers. The IROC on the other hand were all monochromatic so when you got the stripe Delete DX1? it did not come with the decals from my understanding.

You are correct on the IROC. Mine is a DX1 car and i have no stripe or door decals. She only had the rocker & rear bumber IROCZ inserts.

 

John, you sure about the RPO code? I know GM recycled the RPOs, but in 1987 (the year in question), DX1 referred to the big hood bird as it was still available in 1987 (for the Trans AM atleast - I know it wasn't available on the Formula). But did DX1 really mean two different things, between the Formula and Trans Am, for the same year?!

 

JT, I will look on my paperwork over the weekend. And see what the code is. I think John is correct...

 

According to the 1987 work order sheet, DX1 is the hood bird (Trans Am only). I doubt it would be reused for the Formula, in the same year, to mean something else?

 

For some reason I think DX1 is wrong.. I will have to look it up... Thus the ?...

I think you mean DX3 as it's Stripe Delete? DX1 is the hood bird, which is an interest of mine.

 

DX3 I think that sounds better....

 

DX3 is the RPO code for stripe delete. I have it on the window sticker of my IROC
