Question regarding differences in 1991 Z28's??
My 1991 Z28 vert has the tonneu cover release on the console in between the electric window switches. I have seen some that have them on the back where the top release is? Are there same year differences?
I also recently saw on that had lights on the back passenger side panels in the car. I have black arm rests in the back w/my grey leather and have seen others w/all grey?
Just curious if anyone knows if these were mid year changes. I know some 91's came out in 1990 and then later in 91.
Thanks!

Re: Question regarding differences in 1991 Z28's??
I haven't seen a release switch anywhere other than on the console. All I'm aware of in the rear is he back-up manual release cable. I'd be interested in seeing one that has the switch somewhere else.
For what it's worth, my bone stock '89 has rear black arm rests over grey panels. But I have grey cloth not leather, so this info might not be of much use. I also don't have the rear interior lights.

Thanks for the pics. That's why I like it here. Learn something new all the time.
So far it seems to be the later models that have it there. However, my gut feeling is that it would be more based on if the car, before it went to ASC, had a switch on the console already or not. If it did (usually to release the rear hatch) then it was replaced with the tonneu release switch. If it didn't, then it was mounted on the tonneu itself.
Just a theory, and probably one that is full of holes. Any other ideas? Maybe it was a year thing.

mine is on the cover in the rear .. it makes sense for it to be there since it is right next to the release lever. Im not just saying that because mine is like that but why would they put it where normally the hatch release switch goes ?? I mean you have to click it then get out and pull the cable .. what if it doesn't release on the first try? you have to lean back in to click it again? Oh well thats why they are all different and unique !!!!

I just got a few weeks ago an original blue 91z vert with grey interior. It has the switch next to the pull cable, and my armrest are matching cloth( I have cloth interior). My trunk is black tho. Is that correct?

My blue Z has grey leather w/grey carpet, but ya, my rear trunk carpet is black, so I am assuming it is original

My rear carpet is black also (grey interior). I'm pretty sure the black trunk carpet is in most if not all the convertibles.
Here is my trunk. All the plastic is there in the original location, I just have a custom sub enclosure and an amp added in

I even got the amp positioned to where it doesn't interfere with the top when it's in the "down" position.

Re: Question regarding differences in 1991 Z28's??
I ordered my 1991 Z28 Vert direct from the factory in May 1990 on the first day i started my new job out of college. I had actually intended to order a '90 IROC with T Tops but they had already stopped that model year and i didn't like the new "wing" on the '91s so i went with the 305 TPI / 5 Speed vert and was always glad i did.
Mine would be then one of the earlier '91 models. It has the release switch on the center console between the two power window switches.
The interior i ordered was the black custom cloth.
My guess is they made a switch on all the cars at some point for ease of wiring on the conversion versus something to do with what interior you ordered, but that is just my guess
I can remember the day by day wait to get that car, it took about 15 weeks to get it... I almost ended up selling it a couple times when i got married when we built our house, but always managed to scrape up enough money from elsewhere to avoid that...
It has less than 6,000 miles on it and while it doesn't go as fast as my '85 Z28 LS3 conversion it is still a real head turner

Sweet car and thanks for sharing. I've gone through the same thing, almost selling it due to house, kids, etc. Still have mine. My wife says, "You love it and I don't want to hear you say down the road how much you wish you still had it every time we see one."
Gotta love her.
Gotta love her.
