Convertible-specific jack points? Body flexing?!
Hey guys. Well with the reduced structural rigidity of a f-body convertible vs. hardtop I was wondering if the convertibles still have the same safe jack points as a hardtop car. I was jacking my 91 Trans Am convertible today via the k-member and then placed the jack stands under the sway bar mounts on the frame. When I released the jack, I actually saw the body flex a little when it settled on the jack stands. The doors also became a little harder to open and close. I'm a little concerned and I'm wondering if it's OK for the car to have the front jacked up like this for extended periods of time. Where are safe spots to mount the jacks behind the front wheels? Just to reduce body flex and so the stands don't need to be as high up. Thank you!

even with sub frames in, mine still flexes. I use ramps, and jack mine under the k member, and the pumpkin.

Oh ok. I do pretty much the same but I was just wondering if the flexing is OK and if its alright for the car to be on jackstands for extended periods of time. I'm afraid it'll cause damage.

youll be fine. just use the normal spots to jack and put stands under.. All these cars flex, even the hard tops, some just do more than others..

I'm very worried about using ramps - I've got 8" of clearance (been lowered) and am afraid of messing up the front spoiler more than it already is... Anyone else have this problem or concern?

my 90 is lowered. no way to drive up ramps. I jack the car up and place ramps under the tires.
my wifes 91 is stock. i have to put a couple pices of 2x4 boards in front or the ramps. and it clears the fx.
