Which hood for the Matrix Vert?

I don't intend to put ground fx on it, and I will likely change out the nose for the Z28 style of the same year (no slats in the middle of the nose).

But the question is, what hood to go with?

Here's my car now:

Here's the ones I'm thinking of:

This is Hawks ZL1 hood, due to be produced at the end of the year.

This is the "Sunoco" style hood, which is warming up on me

Ignore the writing, this is the IROC hood, which is what I originally wanted on the car.

Please leave your vote, and any other hoods or suggestions to consider.

Re: Which hood for the Matrix Vert?

Ill cast my vote for the ZL1, I think your keeping it white, correct?

And, what bumper are you switching it to? The 84Z Bumper that doesnt have slots in it, is a GFX type bumper, but your not going to add GFX?

Yes I'm keeping it white, and those nasty stripes are going away. I realized the same thing you did about the 84Z bumper. What I need, is this bumper:

The car pictured is an "82 Camaro" off the main picture page of this site. So I'd assume I'm looking for an 82 bumper?

Re: Which hood for the Matrix Vert?

I've been wanting an IROC hood on this car for a while, but that's also when I was wanting to do an IROC clone. I've dropped that idea, and have become a little more willing to do some tasteful modifications to the car.

Part of what I'm considering, is the carb and air filter sit tall and the stock hood almost touches the air cleaner. That hood gets blistering hot when the car comes up to temp and I don't think the motor is breathing as well as it could be. Thats why I'm considering the other two hoods. A normal cowl hood would give a little breathing room, and I'm asking Hawks if the ZL1 has that screen on it just for decoration, or if its an active air intake. Anyone else have thoughts on that?

Re: Which hood for the Matrix Vert?

If you feel like making a drive I am selling my new cowl hood for $350 still in the edp coating steel goodmark hood. and I have an iroc hood but it doesn't have the louvers on it for $75. I am in NW Ohio around 45 minutes south of Toledo. Also have the front bumer you are looking for but it is still attached to the 87 iroc vert I am parting out.

I don't usually like aftermarket hoods but I think that ZL1 hood looks sweet!

I know. Its really growing on me. A guy from Hawks emailed me back, but didn't answer all my questions. I'll bug them more when I can afford a hood, no point in asking all these questions without giving them a sale.

Re: Which hood for the Matrix Vert?

Check local yards for the Iroc hood. Local yards here had good condition ones and would let em go for $45+ Tax and most here don't realize the louvers are a separate piece and let them go for free but now with people picking parts off the cars, they let the hoods slam and get some pretty dents on them. To be honest, even with a reputable vendor, Its gonna take me some good investigating and good return policy to buy a Fiberglass hood. With the Iroc hood theres no headaches and its mostly bolt on and align and no warping problems. I bought my Daytona hood locally from Denny/Niterider on here and its almost perfect with little imperfections that I fixed now, So don't be afraid to check out Craigslist.

Here you go, found one for you and located near you. Clicky
